Russia has aimed its entire media arsenal at the veteran Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman over his appearance in a video accusing the Kremlin of waging "war" on America during last year's presidential election.
The video shows the Oscar winner accusing President Vladimir Putin, a "former KGB spy", of launching cyber attacks and spreading false information in order to avenge the collapse of the Soviet Union.
He urges President Donald Trump to tell the nation that "during this past election, we came under attack by the Russian government".
The clip was produced by The Committee to Investigate Russia, a group set up by Hollywood director Rob Reiner to expose what it calls Russia's "aggressive effort to subvert the American democratic process".
The committee includes former National Intelligence Agency director James Clapper on its advisory board.
Freeman 'duped'
The official Russian reaction has adopted a knowing rather than angry tone, suggesting that Morgan Freeman is more to be pitied as a dupe of political interests.
President Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin was not taking the film seriously, as its accusations were "groundless and of an exclusively emotional character".
"Many creative people easily fall victim to emotional strain, and don't have real information about the actual state of affairs," he said, comparing the "emotional manipulation" of Hollywood stars to the McCarthyite anti-Communist campaigns of the 1950s.
"It will pass with time," concluded Mr Peskov.
The foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, wrote on Facebook that Morgan Freeman had been "duped" in an attempt to stop alleged wiretapping of the Trump campaign under the Obama administration from "turning into a new Watergate".
She predicted a "spectacular finale" when the truth comes out - "I can't wait".

I didn’t know Russia had any ‘relationship’ with Morgan Freeman at all. Maybe his old movies are popular there.
There is not much of any way they could negatively effect his career. Morgan has already had a long, rich career, in spite of his Obama-esque views about race relations.
The leftist kooks think all they have to do is have Morgan Freeman accuse anyone and that makes it true. Because well, hey, it’s Morgan Freeman and with his deep voice he wouldn’t ever lie. Sadly, those on the left are not smart enough to know when they’re being conned and they already want to believe the worst about trump anyway.
As bas as this move was, I’m sure it will end up being a good career move for him given that we’re dealing with Hollyweird here. That being said, Morgan went full retard and I think he’ll come to regret it.
I think they fear Russian immigrants more than the Russian government because Russian immigrants tend to be white and right. so they’re poisoning the well.
Surprise, surprise, Morgan Freeman has joined the ranks of the publicly stupid, willing tools of the lying left. Honestly, what’s one more left-wing fool, in the grand scheme of things? It really does make me see that even the most distinguished-looking Hollyweirdos are still just Hollyweirdos. You’d think with that deep voice and sincere appearance he would be smarter. I guess that’s why they call it “acting.”

He’s a veteran too. He spent 4 years in the Airforce and was discharged honorably AFAIK. Because of that, I won’t tear into him the way I might with some of these other hollyweirdo types but I certainly won’t give him my money either.
What we really need is a Committee to Investigate Democrat and RINO Corruption. Oh, and a Special Prosecutor to investigate and prosecute Hillary and her cabal.
That’s what this Russia business is all about, obstructing that process. But you are 100% right and if Sessions won’t do it, he needs to be fired and replaced with a hard charger that’s fully on board the Trump train.

The Russians have interfered, meddled, influenced, EVERY election in recent memory. So has China. And Mexico. And Great Britain. And Israel. And France.
Foreign nations HAVE AN INTEREST in the outcome of our political process.
2016 was no different, but because the RESULT was against what the ELITES desired, the reflexive reaction is to say foreign influence was DECISIVE. This is a psychological way of convincing oneself that the outcome of the election was “wrong”.

Well, if you'll recall, last October, a former female Canadian Prime Minister, Kim Campbell, launched a powerful attack against Donald Trump. On October 12, she went to the media and labeled him a "Sexual predator" and the media ran with it unsurprisngly. Then she pretended as if the Canadian government wasn't attempting to affect the outcome of the US Presidential election but I think that's a little hard to swallow.
That was a coordinated October surprise attack launched by an agent of the Canadian government meant to be a decisive factor in the outcome of our election.
It failed though so not much was said of it after the Trump victory but had it panned out as they intended, I guarantee, we would all be talking about Canada interfering in our election, not Russia.
As it is, it illustrates exactly what you have stated, that foreign governments interfere in the elections of other governments. The leftist revolution is global. As such, leftists in foreign countries do not want to see a hard line right wing nationalist American government and they will do what they can to see to it that that doesn't happen.
