Actually, it is. By the very mention of "the Apocaplypse", the question is already a theological one (for lack of a better term). Spiritual might be preferable, in fact. The Apostle John saw some things 2000 years ago by being closely tied in with powers that are beyond our domain. He saw them from a perspective where, in the eternal realm, the end of history has already taken place, and the merging of time and eternity was about to begin. The one terminates and merges with the other.
People who do not believe these things, or those who have refused to treat them as genuine and therefore have not dealt with them, are nonplussed.
Those who are impressed by the prophetic are fascinated to see things that should not have been known by a man 2000 years ago, lining up right before our eyes.
As long as some sniper isn’t on the shore or bridges trying to pick off people trying to escape by water.
A better idea is to not live in cities of that size to begin with.
I did grit my teeth long enough to mostly read the article.
Despite his obvious scorn and derision of those who have the foresight to plan for an emergency, he brings up some good points and mentions some things I have not heard about before.
The best thing to do is beat feet out of the area before most people realize just what the implications of the emergency really and and go animal on you.
Honestly, I would think a bike would be your best bet for a quick retreat.
If you’ve got to reside in a metro for reasons of employment or family, reside on the periphery and know all the back roads and side streets, not to mention the unconventional routes not involving named thoroughfares. Primary exit routes will be clogged to the point of unusable if some major catastrophe is looming, witness attempted evacuations ahead of hurricanes over the past decade or so. It’s also important to know where you’re going. A vehicle that can function in a variety of less than ideal circumstances with a long range as far as fuel consumption is advisable. And, here comes a sort of silly sounding one but ponder it for a bit and it will make a great deal of sense: he who panics first panics best. Wait too long and you’re screwed, pardon the language.
Even living in the country, knowing the back roads routes is the way to go.
I used to live in Fulton NY, close enough to Nine Mile to keep alternate routes out of the area in the back of my mind.
The LAST route I would take out of an area is the interstate or major roads.
Yes, the back roads and side streets would be your best be.
Free yourself from being restricted to recognized “roads” and the options are greatly improved. Those 4wd vehicles are not just ego or trendiness, not the functional ones with high clearance and offroad tires at least. There are so many unimpeded routes that people never consider because we’re trained to the point of hardwired to think only of “road.” Rights of way for electric utility high tension wires are always kept clear and are everywhere, for instance. Knowing your destination and knowing available options might be the difference between making it or not.
If it’s really that bad, what to do once you get there is another matter.

Carrying fuel is ok but during an “event” there will be plenty of fuel around during the initial stages. Carry the means to transfer it. Make it a habit to never let your vehicles get below half a tank. Everything I have that would be bug out driveable has a 200 mile range on half a tank.
