RIP. I have never been entirely certain if he was a cultural driver or only a reflection. Both, possibly. My late Dad was an original keyholder, with a stack of magazines in the attic that went back to the beginning. Mom made him get rid of them when my brother and were old enough to be "influenced" (God bless her, she was several years too late). We often laughed about that later, they would have been worth a small fortune.

Odd, though. I have no idea who Hefner really was. There really were articles in Playboy (or so I'm told) and it was at least at one time a place for some very prestigious authors to preen. But what little I ever read of Hefner's "philosophy" was shallow even by hedonism's standards.

Oh, and I still think Barbi Benton was adorable. She's been happily married for 38 years now. God, I'm old.
