A New Orleans man was booked with felony theft Wednesday (Oct. 4) after FBI security cameras and security guards spotted him stealing copper from a construction project at the FBI New Orleans Field Office, according to a local FBI spokesman.
Michael Bailey, 39, is accused of taking the copper from a construction zone on federal property, specifically the new visitor center being built at the FBI New Orleans Field Office at 2901 Leon C. Simon Blvd.
The theft occurred about 6 p.m. Sept. 22, according to the FBI New Orleans Field Office.
Through video surveillance and eyewitnesses, including security guards, investigators learned that Bailey had approached the construction zone, exited his white GMC pickup truck and then scavenged the site.

Lesson learned: NEVER steal copper from a copper!
The government does not like competition.
Maybe it was a No Bid theft. That would take the “competition” out of the “competition”.
Does the GSA know about this? Wait, they invented it. Sorry.
F: “I can’t believe you thought you could get away with this.”
T: “I can’t believe it took you so long to catch me.”
I have a relative who’s a contractor. This kind of crap is a big problem.
That copper is hot, red hot!
Maybe the guy figured that since the FBI is useless for convicting other Democrats when they steal... that he’d get a pass, too.
median IQ this guy surely is not. LOL
As a retired Electrician I can tell you that we call scrap copper “Rabbit” and the long handled cable cutters a “Bunny Gun”. For the most part, we gave the Rabbit to the helpers. On a big job there would be hundreds of dollars in scrap copper.
Today’s Thursday, not Friday. Thursday was in “Endeavor”.
If you don’t know, ask.
I love dumb crook stories.
He seems to be looking down into the camera. At only five foot nine or so, that shouldn’t be the case. Maybe the operator was desperate to get him out of there. I know I would be.
I’m guessing Joe Friday and Fred Thursday (had to look that one up)...?
