This iPhone-based ultrasound machine can detect cancer
yahoo ^

Posted on 10/29/2017 12:52:54 PM PDT by BenLurkin

Instead of vibrating crystals, Butterfly IQ uses "capacitive micro-machined ultrasound transducers", or CMUTs, tiny ultrasonic emitters layered on a semiconductor chip a little larger than a postage stamp. "The device gives you the ability to do everything at the bedside: you can pull it out of your pocket and scan the whole body," Martin said.

The company now plans to combine the instrument with artificial-intelligence software that could help a novice position the probe, collect the right images, and interpret them.

By 2018, its software will let users automatically calculate how much blood a heart is pumping, or detect problems like aortic aneurisms, the report said. The Butterfly IQ is the first solid-state ultrasound machine to reach the market in the US. The company plans to go on sale this year for $1,999-far less than any other model on the market.

At that price you can RENT it for less than the cost of a doctor visit.

Anyone depending on Apple to diagnose their cancer needs their head examined...

...by someone other than Apple!

What vision this guy had.

I remember the episode with the typewriter you talk to.

Or were these ideas already in existence in science, knowing it all could be done one day, just didn’t have the knowledge yet

Why is why I expect lobbyists will have it regulated out of existence.

I always wondered if that episode wasn’t meant to be a spin-off.

For fun I just wiki’d it. It was indeed meant to be a spin-off, called “Assignment: Earth” (the title of that Strek Trek episode, which was actually the pilot for the new show), but it wasn’t picked up.

“If the company is planning on going on sale for $1999, i’ll buy.”

Requires a medical practitioners license to purchase. :-(

Think it is $1,900 less than any other ultrasound. Not full price?
