A WSJ article about rental storage units & crime told of a wife #2 who slowly grew to resent paying for a unit that held household goods from hubbie's 1st marriage, thinking he still held a candle for wife #1. So she stopped the monthly checks without telling him, though he'd been making them for decades before finally entrusting her with all their bill payments.

Boy, were they ever surprised when LEOs rang the doorbell to arrest him for 3 murders!

He had long told everyone - including her - that Wife #1 took their two young sons and disappeared with no word as to where. But in actuality he'd murdered them in bed with an axe or hatchet, and their bodies had been wrapped in heavy plastic bags all those years, until non-payment of monthly rental fees resulted in the unit's contents being bought in a white elephant sale.
