RING!......................
Fingers crossed ...
Ain't that the wrong end of the body ?
=ducking=
I have occasional bouts of tinnitus - usually not more than an hour or so per day. As I get older, it is becoming more frequent. Still I am thankful it is not continuous, as it is with some people.
I do have one question, though: How do they tell whether or not a guinea pig is suffering from tinnitus?
He chews faster?.................
Interesting....my tinnitis was likely caused from the needed heavy doses aspirin I had to take about 18 years ago for awhile...so...be careful, folks. (At least my stomach got saved with Deglycerrhized licorice)
Thanks for the ping.
I have tinnitus too. Most of the time my body just ignores it and I do not realize it is there. Sometimes all is quiet if I try to listen for it like right now for instance.
My tinnitus was probably caused by the same thing, plus a lot of loud band music. It is constant now.
“Sometimes all is quiet if I try to listen for it like right now for instance.”
I seem to have the same level of it that you have ... it’s there, but I don’t notice it until it is dead quiet. I think mine is from years of listening to heavy metal on my walkman :-).
One thing I never noticed about it was the change in amplitude of the noise when I move my neck or grind my teeth. While it doesn’t bother me, I’d rather not have it :-).
Mine is a constant high pitched eeeeeeee plus an underlying hiissssss. Sometimes I can tune it out, then I read an article like this which triggers the YOU CANT IGNORE ME instruction in my brain.
Loud rock concerts in high school and college, manufacturing factory floors, wood shop and metal shop, unruffled lawn mowers, homemade explosives, exploding bicycle tires, rifle fire, .357 magnum pistols, loud stereos and headphones, CANAM and TRANSAM car races, power plants — you name it, I did it. Nobody ever told me, not once, “watch it, kid...you’ll harm your hearing.” But would I have listened?
Thanks for posting this.
I go to an otologist every couple years to see if any progress has been made. If you don’t have tinitus, there is no cure. There is a bunch of extra noise in my head that does interfere with normal hearing, even though I can pass mosts hearing tests.
Like the other poster, mine was probably caused by shooting high power rifles with my (totally deaf) father as a youth. Also loud rock music, specifically The Ramones.
To Medical amateurs.
The Vagal nerve is between the Vaginal and the Anal nerves.
The technical term is Taint.
There you learned something.
This is great news.
I’m happy that the FDA will approve it in time for my grandchildren to benefit from it.
Taint ? I call that the Gooch.
Thanks for posting.
Mine is the same as yours, a constant screech with a hisss.
It’s to the point now of interfering with my ability to understand normal conversation.
I catch myself looking at a speakers mouth to make sure I am hearing the right words.
Some nights it even keeps me awake.
I suppose someday I will lose my hearing completely except for this damned noise.
The FDA will never approve any treatment in my lifetime.
I have been exposed to loud noises most of my life. Shotguns, unmuffled farm tractors, unmuffled trucks and motorcycles and loud music.
Picture Grandma’s house and the double bell door ringer in the hallway. Now picture that ringer five feet in front of your head and it’s ringing 24 hours a day. That is my tinnitus.
It came on like someone flipped a light switch, and after 80 hours of no sleep, the hospital knocked me out.
Turns out the tinnitus hertz matched the frequency of my hearing loss, so relief was gained by hearing aids with sound maskers matching the lost frequencies.
Best $7k we ever spent, would have paid that times tem for the relief achieved.
Hard to describe it as a ringing. Its more like a very high radio frequency sound. It could be a beacon from the great ice ship or its a message from outer space that can’t be deciphered. Its always there like a steam radiator valve when it is hot. (Like there are some of you who might remember them? Probably not.)
