TSA Officer Finds Cat Packed In Luggage
CBS New York ^

Posted on 01/13/2018 8:53:01 PM PST by nickcarraway

There’s a right way to travel with your cat and a wrong way.

The TSA said one of its officers found a cat packed inside checked luggage at Pennsylvania’s Erie International Airport.

The feline, named Slim, was curled up in a pile of clothes inside the bag.

“While this could have been extremely dangerous for the 6-month old cat, Slim is just fine and is currently residing under the care of the Humane Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania,” the TSA wrote on Instagram.

LOL!

Beautiful cat; really stupid ‘owner’.

I love calico cats.

They’re usually girls and so sweet.

Always girls from what I recall reading decades ago, genetic stuff. Someone figure out a way to breed male calicos, and hit the jackpot.

Slim had always wanted to see Paris.

He dreamt of taking long walks along the Left Bank and crapping in a French alley.

Not necessarily. Back when I traveled for NASA I had to always ‘search’ my bag before I closed it because one of our kittens would burrow her way down to the bottom of the bag and hide out.

Otherwise you’d never know she was in there.

I agree, accident, never believed those tales about cats that find their owners across the continent after going missing during a move, instead they probably hid in the luggage undetected, and wandered out at a time of their own choosing.

You would have to be pretty stupid to think that a cat could somehow travel three thousand miles by itself across wilderness and hostile terrain.

And for that matter, pretty stupid to place a cat in your airline luggage. I guess it was carry-on though, surely, or the TSA would not be opening it.

I’m sure it can happen; but that cat doesn’t look very tiny and easy to miss. And it seems it would start a ruckus inside at some point before making it to the plane...

Cats are pretty sneaky, I wonder if kitty packed itself and the owner didn’t know? I have had kitties try to get into luggage. Also possible a child packed kitty, my stepson packed a kitty in his bag once on a car trip.

“Hey everybody! Look! It’s Slim the jet-settin cat from Northern Pennsylvania! Where you jettin to today, Slim?”

“Well, if you must know, I’m headed to Haiti. My cat box is full, and I heard Haiti is a shirthole.”

“Far out, Slim! There should be lots of sand to scratch in Haiti!”

Oh, gosh ;-)

It does seem odd that anyone trying to ‘smuggle’ kitty would expect to get through TSA...it’s just that of late, I don’t have a lot of faith in many folks’ ‘common sense’.

There are occasionally male calicos; but I read when it happens they are sterile because of the genetics. My mother had a male calico, he never reproduced. People always say a male calico would be worth a fortune but since they can’t reproduce there really isn’t any real interest in them that I know of other than novelty.

I have to agree with you on the lack of common sense. It does seem people are doing things I would have never thought so it is possible it was done on purpose. My first reaction was accident because I forget some of the crazy things people do and I have had cats try to go on trips.

I am also a great aficionado of the tri-colored kitties. My huge tortie and white Maine Coon is currently laying across my keyboard. If I want to type any keys on the upper rows, I'm having to lift up the fur covering them. That little gal in the luggage is a real beauty, and cute as a bug. What were her humans thinking? That they could save themselves a packet of money not paying to bring her aboard? Poor little kitty could have suffocated. And what if she had peed or worse on all their clothes? Bet they didn't think of that!

Cats will definitely get themselves into fixes. We don’t even go to the grocery store without getting ours into a bedroom and closing the door, so they can’t get up to dangerous mischief in the wider house.

The gene for color in cats is carried on the X chromosome. In cats, some cells could have the gene for black activated on one X chromosome and have the gene for red activated on the other X chromosome. So random cells are either black or red (orange), since female cats have 2 X chromosomes. Males only have 1 X chromosome, so they are either black OR red, not both. If you run across a rare male calico, he is a chimera and probably has abnormal chromosomes, likely the result of 2 eggs fusing, so he is XY/XY instead of XY

Every time we pull a suitcase out and throw it open on the bed to pack, our cat crawls in. Luckily, she’s a pretty good size, and we pack tight...there is no way she’s gonna stowaway for a trip. But she tries.

Thought I read it was a genetic thing, you confirm it. never had a class in genetics.

Just seeing the gender confusion of millennials is enough to make you run away.
