What I Learned in the Peace Corps in Africa: Trump Is Right

Three weeks after college, I flew to Senegal, West Africa, to run a community center in a rural town. Life was placid, with no danger, except to your health. That danger was considerable, because it was, in the words of the Peace Corps doctor, "a fecalized environment."

In plain English: s--- is everywhere. People defecate on the open ground, and the feces is blown with the dust – onto you, your clothes, your food, the water. He warned us the first day of training: do not even touch water. Human feces carries parasites that bore through your skin and cause organ failure.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a few decades later, liberals would be pushing the lie that Western civilization is no better than a third-world country. Or would teach two generations of our kids that loving your own culture and wanting to preserve it are racism.

Last time I was in Paris, I saw a beautiful African woman in a grand boubou have her child defecate on the sidewalk next to Notre Dame Cathedral. The French police officer, ten steps from her, turned his head not to see.

I have seen. I am not turning my head and pretending unpleasant things are not true.

This is a great article and 100% true. For those of us that retired from the military and spent as I did many years overseas, you can really identify with how the writer describes Senega. It sounds like many of the third world countries where I was stationed.

If the third world is so wonderful, one may ask, then what is the problem in returning illegals to their home of origin? It is then that liberals show the truth as it is obvious that the illegals homes of origin are poor places to live.

I arrived in Senegal from Morocco at 1 am, couldn’t get a Mautiania visa, and was mugged leaving the airport. I was also thrown in jail for a couple hours at the border with Mali (Kidro) for being a witness to a fight (they just wanted to know what I saw and didn’t want me to go away.)

And Senegal is probably the most civilized country in West Africa, right up there with Nigeria. It’s better, by far, than: Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Ivory Coast. That was some trip...

One of my sons was in the Peace Corps in the capital city of a non-African country. Water was turned on from 6 am to 6 pm. No hot water. All drinking water had to be purified. He was warned not to let water get in his mouth when he showered. Crime was bad - I forget if curfew for the PC volunteers was 6 pm or sundown.

Must read article.

I’m guessing that this was written by someone who was once a young, selfless, starry eyed liberal who planned on changing the world. She put skin in the game with a year of her life, which earns a great deal of respect from me.

I’d love to read a rebuttal by a current day liberal.

I visited Haiti to spend time with an old friend doing missionary work there. The pungent smell of feces being burned as fuel, and the accompanying squalor and endless shantytowns, are memories that remain with me still. Haitians are sweet people, helpless and trapped in a land of verdant beauty. But the corrupt power brokers have rendered it, regrettably into a shithole.

There is nothing as memorable as seeing young children whose hair is turning the color of copper, due to chronic malnutrition.

Trump is right. Conan O’Brien is wrong. If Conan were brave and interested in seeing what life truly is like in Haiti, he would not have broadcast his little TV program from the resort at La Gonave on the western shore, far removed from the abject poverty of Port-au-Prince, the capital. He would have broadcast from Harry Truman Boulevard and showed the swarms of impoverished citizens who struggle just to make it through each day. To those afflicted souls, survival from one day to the next must at times seem worse than the alternative,

And he also would have acknowledged that most Haitians would not know or recognize who Conan O’Brien is, or his silly late-night gabfest, given that they can’t even afford to dream of being in position to own a TV set.

Haiti is a shithole. That is truth, and truth is blind to race. Facts are stubborn things.

I was in Vietnam for a year. It was not a garden spot at all, but it was not nearly as bad as the sh!t holes you describe.

Its rare that I read entire rticles, but I did that one. Excellent. Its really explains why certain people are not compatible

the last part is especially on the mark—

We are lectured by Democrats that we must privilege third-world immigration by the hundred million with chain migration. They tell us we must end America as a white, Western, Judeo-Christian, capitalist nation – to prove we are not racist. I don’t need to prove a thing. Leftists want open borders because they resent whites, resent Western achievements, and hate America. They want to destroy America as we know it.

As President Trump asked, why would we do that?

We have the right to choose what kind of country to live in. I was happy to donate a year of my life as a young woman to help the poor Senegalese. I am not willing to donate my country.

Although I’m retirement age, I took a language class last year and the most arrogant, entitled smug student in the whole class was about to graduate and go to one of the Post-Soviet countries for the Peace Corps. There was nothing she didn’t know, smartest gal in the room just like Hillary, you know. /s
I would love to hear her perspective when she gets back from those conditions, and see whether she lasts 2 years without blowouts and manicures.

Haiti occupies about 1/3 rd of the island of Hispaniola. The grim truth is that Haiti is badly overpopulated and cannot support its people.

“Who Needs The Peace Corps?”

What’s there to live for?
Who needs the peace corps?
Think I’ll just DROP OUT
I’ll go to Frisco
Buy a wig & sleep
On Owsley’s floor

Walked past the wig store
Danced at the Fillmore
I’m completely stoned
I’m hippy & I’m trippy
I’m a gypsy on my own
I’ll stay a week & get the crabs &
Take a bus back home
I’m really just a phony
But forgive me
‘Cause I’m stoned

Every town must have a place
Where phony hippies meet
Psychedelic dungeons
Popping up on every street
GO TO SAN FRANCISCO . . .

How I love ya, How I love ya
How I love ya, How I love ya Frisco!
How I love ya, How I love ya
How I love ya, How I love ya
Oh, my hair is getting good in the back!

Every town must have a place
Where phony hippies meet
Psychedelic dungeons
Popping up on every street
GO TO SAN FRANCISCO . . .

Hotcha!

First I’ll buy some beads
And then perhaps a leather band
To go around my head
Some feathers and bells
And a book of Indian lore
I will ask the Chamber Of Commerce
How to get to Haight Street
And smoke an awful lot of dope
I will wander around barefoot
I will have a psychedelic gleam in my eye at all times
I will love everyone
I will love the police as they kick the shit out of me on the street
I will sleep . . .
I will, I will go to a house
That’s, that’s what I will do
I will go to a house
Where there’s a rock & roll band
‘Cause the groups all live together
And I will join a rock & roll band
I will be their road manager
And I will stay there with them
And I will get the crabs
But I won’t care
Because . . .

a friend of mine who came from India said in their biggest, most advanced city, they get 8 hours of electricity a day. I told him that didn’t sound so bad, and then he replied that you never know which 8 hours. It can come on in the middle of the night. True story.

So a potential palliative would be for them to stop making more babies?

It's not likely to happen. I notice the Dominican's keep them on their part of the Island.
