I visited Haiti to spend time with an old friend doing missionary work there. The pungent smell of feces being burned as fuel, and the accompanying squalor and endless shantytowns, are memories that remain with me still. Haitians are sweet people, helpless and trapped in a land of verdant beauty. But the corrupt power brokers have rendered it, regrettably into a shithole.

There is nothing as memorable as seeing young children whose hair is turning the color of copper, due to chronic malnutrition.

Trump is right. Conan O’Brien is wrong. If Conan were brave and interested in seeing what life truly is like in Haiti, he would not have broadcast his little TV program from the resort at La Gonave on the western shore, far removed from the abject poverty of Port-au-Prince, the capital. He would have broadcast from Harry Truman Boulevard and showed the swarms of impoverished citizens who struggle just to make it through each day. To those afflicted souls, survival from one day to the next must at times seem worse than the alternative,

And he also would have acknowledged that most Haitians would not know or recognize who Conan O’Brien is, or his silly late-night gabfest, given that they can’t even afford to dream of being in position to own a TV set.

Haiti is a shithole. That is truth, and truth is blind to race. Facts are stubborn things.

Haiti occupies about 1/3 rd of the island of Hispaniola. The grim truth is that Haiti is badly overpopulated and cannot support its people.
