Like so many other victims out there, once again, I did not win a Grammy.

But without the Grammys how could you win an EGOT?

Due to some connections with non-famous people in the industry, I went to the Grammys twice and had decent seating. Was only a tween back then but I remember the music palette being so much more diverse and better quality...some highlights:

U2 singing “Beautiful Day”
Moby ft. Jill Scott “Natural Blues”
Train “Drops of Jupiter”
Faith Hill “Breathe”
Eminem “Stan” with Elton John (even though he’s legendary, would have preferred to hear Dido as on original track. Love her.) But it was one of the publicity highlights of the show due to Eminem’s controversial quips about gay community in his songs.

Alicia Keys won stuff, Beyonce was on the brink of going solo, Nelly Furtado was on the scene, boybands and Britney were still a thing, etc...and Jon Stewart hosting.

I think one I went to was before the attacks on 9/11, and the other took place after...an interesting turning point of the culture for sure. In retrospect, pop culture as a whole took a nosedive and entered a dark period...

Should be interesting to see how music evolves in Trump era.
