I like this song, which portrays the neighborhood in which I lived until shortly before the song came out.
Sunset People--Donna Summer (1979)

This is my favorite Africa tune. Reminds of a bunch of guys I knew who could really play drums, bongos and congas. It was fun without anything but drums
Santana Mother Africa Listening to this you can almost imagine being in Africa.

A "rousing rocker??"
It's quintessential yacht rock crapola.

I thought that was “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel.
I just looked it up.
Supposedly, both of those songs were inspired by her.

Africa and their other hit Roseanna are the only stuff I’ve heard by them. And I get Roseanna confused with Roxanne half the time, lol.

Agreed. I was a young fella when this song first hit the airwaves, and I still enjoy listening to the song and watching the video.

That’s almost the plot to Blood Diamond.

Donna Summer was amazing and this song would be so much better if the disco beat were taken out of the mix.
But it’s pretty cool how songs we remember make up soundtrack of our lives.

Or really pretty cool version! Where on earth did you find that?
So creative it almost brought tears to my eyes.

Is there any clue what the lyrics mean? The lyrics are pony, but the music is pretty good.
I mean "I know that I must do what's right As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti" - really? So awkward. Like those early Genesis lyrics where they tried to stuff an entire paragraph into what should have been an 8 note melody.

I had to look at the YouTube link because I was thinking that I had remembered the wrong song. Yeah, even this old lady would put it in the easy listening category.

Artistry in the music of that era the likes of which is almost never seen anymore. Maybe we took it too much for granted.

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either satire or opinion. Or both.)

Not a bad song...it beats rap...but it is so bland imho...if i want to hear song bout relating to other geographies and cultures....”tie me kangaroo down” or Men at Works...down under song is more enjoyable to me...or Lightfoots ALBERTA BOUND or MOUNTAINS AND MARYANN are better imho

A song with nonsensical lyrics enjoyed by people who are entertained by nonsense and live nonsensical lives.
So why the surprise?
