I’m just surprised this silly girl thought drowning in sewage was better than freezing, which the hamster wouldn’t have done since it’s basically a RAT and they live in any climate all over the world except...maybe....Antarctica?

“..the emotional support....hamster.......gets flushed down toilet.........”.....

So much for “emotional support”. If she really needed that hamster to keep her from going bonkers, what happened AFTER the hamster took up sky diving and the woman was left without the furry little critter to console her?

It gets even better. She’s calling the hamster an “emotional support” hamster, but the reality is she bought it because she found a lump she thought might be cancer. It wasn’t. She was taking the flight to have the benign tumor removed and is now calling the hamster an emotional support animal. It’s a pet. Still, she’s an idiot. It occurs to her to call the media AFTER the flight? Why didn’t it occur to her to call them BEFORE she killed the hamster? I hope her parents are paying attention. Heaven forbid she’s their medical power of attorney. She is completely unable to function under any form of stress.

I’m waiting for a story where the emotional support animal runs away from its human because the human was such a lame and pathetic wuss that the animal couldn’t stand to be around 24/7, 365.

I think many carrier planes have 2 types of cargo bins...pressurized and unpressurized. Caged pets are put in the pressurized bins...well, most of the time. You’ll read about it on the Interwebz if Fido is put in the UNpressurized bin because he’ll arrive at his destination cold and lifeless.

When Dexter the emotional support peacock was denied entrance to a flight, he drove cross country.

This is an awful story, but I am curious to learn more about the peacock which drove cross country.

Anyone that needs and emotional support hamster is not emotionally balanced enough to believe a word they say.

Enough with the emotional support animals.

Get therapy or stay home.

My bet is that this idiotic and cruel act will haunt her, well into adulthood - as it should - if she makes it that far.

My thoughts exactly! You have a 21 year old adult who is SO emotionally fragile, so mentally unstable, that she needs a RODENT to keep her 'normal'. Then, she can bring herself to flush the critter and proceed on to her destination and life thereafter. Did she melt down on the plane? Maybe the hamster should have been allowed onboard instead of an unstable human? Helluva lot safer IMO.

A lot of this 'support' animal stuff is a joke-not all, but a lot-like this case. If separation from her 'beloved' hamster would have been so detrimental to her mental health, how did she survive without it? HOW did she bring herself to KILL it? We need new airline responses to scenarios like this: " I need my porcupine Spike with me as I fly or I'll have a mental breakdown." Response-"Thank you for self-identifying as unstable and potentially dangerous at 30,ooo feet. We'll refund your ticket-drive with Spike."

Firm, sensible, limits are needed. Small dogs, ok. Cats in carriers, ok. Pit bulls-no.Rodentia,snakes, farm animals-hell no or we'll have airplanes that look like trucks in Mexico, with goats and chickens piled in.

Now we see what wins in a forced choice scenario. The planned travel is the winner. The pet loses. Interesting. A pet would not lose every time though. For example I would keep my Maine Coon Cat and give up on the trip.

What does this tell us about "choice" itself?

Why am I reminded of this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYy9LysXANI

It's the South Park scene where Paris Hilton's dog puts a gun under his chin and paws at the trigger...

Couldn't Pebbles have jumped into the toilet, squeaking the hamster version of "ODIN!!!", rather than suffer one more "snuggle" from that emotional train wreck?

Yes! And it is also a huge scam that allows people to take their often untrained and often unruly or sometimes even aggressive "pets" with them everywhere, not just on airplanes but in stores and restaurants, and all sorts of other public places where pets are not typically allowed. And anyone can purchase on line a “service animal” vest and a certificate and often too many business owners are afraid of running afoul of the ADA to say anything.

The sad thing is this abuse and gaming of the system makes it harder for legitimate service dogs and their owners. And by service dogs, I mean seeing eye dogs and those dogs trained to assist paraplegics confined to wheel chairs.

But an emotional support hamster? Give me a freaking break!
