Skip to comments.NBC’s Katie Couric is in hot water with the Dutch, who really don’t skate everywhere

It takes a lot to anger the Dutch, but NBCs Katie Couric managed to strike a nerve over comments she made during the Opening Ceremonies.
Now, most people just watch the color and pageantry rather than focusing on the announcers, but Courics reasoning for why the Netherlands is so dominant in speedskating stopped everyone. Couric mentioned Amsterdams canals and pointed out that skating is an important mode of transportation when the canals freeze over.
I heard this story here in Louisiana while I was rowing my pirogue down the bayou to work this morning :)
Oh my, and I had my choice of skating or snowshoeing into work this morning up here in my locale, lol.
Youd think with all that money shed get those teeth fixed. Gaaaaaah.

LOL. And an Australian commented (at the link) that he rides a kangaroo to work. Who knew?
No trees left in Holland either.
All used to make shoes.
It’s OK for liberals to be prejudiced.
Having spent some time in the Netherlands, I laughed when I heard her say that.
This is a perfect example of what happens when those nightly commentators of the news are left to their own reasoning. I am sure this was not on any teleprompter.
I was thinking about riding my horse down I-5 this morning.........
George: What is Holland?
Jerry What do you mean, ‘what is it?’ It’s a country right next to Belgium.
George: No, that’s the Netherlands.
Jerry: Holland *is* the Netherlands.
George: Then who are the Dutch?
Knowing stuff is so elitist.
They live at Pella, Iowa...
The problem is that you have two hours to fill up and you just start throwing things out there without much sense. Frankly, I’d rather just have raw footage...no comments.
In Washington state we use slugs.
When Katie heard Obama talk about that child needing “a breathalyzer” she probably nodded in agreement.
Yes, and the reason they do so well at golf is the plethora of miniature-golf courses that dot the land.
I stopped watching the Olympics broadcast after a very short time because I couldn’t bear listening to the extremely irritating Katie Couric. I also found the oft repeated views of Lindsey Vaughn extremely irritating.
