GOOCHLAND, Va. (AP) - The autopsy of a Virginia woman found dead in a wooded area says she was mauled to death by her dogs.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the Goochland Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday it's closing the investigation into 22-year-old Bethany Lynn Stephens' death in light of the results. Stephens was found last December near her father's home in Goochland, about 35 miles from Richmond.

What breed, and how many dogs were involved?
I’ll take a wild guess and state that they probably weren’t toy poodles or wiener dogs. Norm Macdonald declares that a wiener dog can rip your throat out, but you’d have to be laying on the floor and it would take a few weeks.
Plott Hounds are very bonded to and defensive of their people. Strangers can be another matter, but not their own pack. If those dogs mauled her to death they were something other than Plotts.
I choked on my coffee laughing. Seriously, the dogs were Pit Bulls.

I still think something stinks about this story. She’d been receiving death threats according to her friends. What I saw of those dogs didn’t give the least appearance of aggression, she was in control of them and they loved her.

They were pit bulls. Sure they loved her.. until they didn’t.
Land sharks that’s what Pit bulls are. Ghetto dogs.

Not from me. We’ve all heard those stories about how someone’s pit bull was “sweet”... then it takes a chunk out of a toddler’s face.
I’ve seen photos, they were mixed breed. The woman had been receiving death threats according to her friends. The dogs were guarding her body. I don’t see it. Of course I’ve been around more than a few so-called pit bulls and they’re not the monsters that people want to paint them as being. The monsters are bred to be mean and mistreated to make them mean, by drug dealers, redneck white trash and urban thugs. This woman rode I believe quarter horses competitively. Tatted, but then a lot of women are now. I don’t think we’re talking the sort of people who would keep the unstable monster dogs. Seriously, there’s something wrong with this story.

With forensics it’s easy to identify the source. I don’t think this is a mystery.
Who was threatening her "according to her friends," and why?
I have always heard that a Pit, if you get it as a puppy and train it properly, will be the best dog you could ever want. My nephew got one as a pup, took it to formal training classes, and that was one GREAT dog for 14 years until he put it down due to multiple ailments. That said - we would never have put our Golden Retriever in the same space as that Pit.
My understanding of this particular situation was that the young woman had ‘rescued’ these two Pits. They had been rescued once before and returned due to aggressive behavior. Anybody from the Richmond area who is familiar with the story, please correct me if I’m wrong.
