I wonder how many species have become extinct through the thousands of generations of life on earth.
or is it millions of generations?
I know it didn’t work out too well for the dinosaurs lol
Are zebras horses?
Two herds of wild horses make their home on Assateague Island, separated by a fence at the Maryland-Virginia line. These small but sturdy, shaggy horses have adapted to their environment over the years by eating dune and marsh grasses and drinking fresh water from ponds. While they appear tame, they are wild, and Park Rangers urge visitors not to feed or pet them.
Every animal on earth was ‘wild’ until we ‘domesticated’ them. That includes humans!!!!!!
All horses currently living in the wild are ordered to report to the nearest ranch for processing.
No wonder they couldn’t drag Mick Jagger away. They are extinct.
I would say wild horses are still around.
Yesterday, we “knew” the evolutionary origin of modern horse breeds.
Today, POOF!!, we don’t. What changed? The horse breeds? No...Our understanding of the scientific data changed.
The science lesson for today?
Science is a collection of theories that are supported by data. But newer data can diminish the validity of an accepted theory or destroy it altogether.
If someone refuses to debate evidence by saying “oh, that’s ‘settled’ science”, they are disingenuous (think liberals on global warming). Science, BY DEFINITION, is NEVER settled.
Have they visited the Outer Banks in NC? They’re everywhere.
Those horses live wild but they ancestors were domesticated horses brought over from Europe who escaped.
There were probably several different variations of the ancestral wild (never domesticated) horses, before the dawn of the age of civilization. But they would have been either domesticated, or killed off by extensive hunting, as horseflesh may have been considered a delicacy in the early days of dawning of culture, and certainly, horsehide is a much coveted form of leather.
The horse genome has not changed terribly much, as horses gone feral have been able to adapt to a wide range of conditions and even climates, from desert to forest cover. The war horses and draft horses of Europe (Belgians, Clydesdales, Percherons and others) were descended from a variant found in forests, the “forest horse”, while the western mustang is probably descended from desert horses known as Arabians.
Przevalski horses are thriving in the Chernobyl exclusion zone
Sable Island, Canada off Nova Scotia has wild horses.
Not extinct, they have evolved.
The Spanish brought horses to the New World. In modern times, there have been no native horses. I think they are referring to the ancestors of modern horses.
