I grew up in Milwaukee. I remember some really brutal winters - there was always SO MUCH SNOW due to Lake Michigan.
We moved to Sun Prairie when I was about 10...and we had FOUR Tornadoes in a week! We girls were NOT happy about that; never had tornadoes in Milwaukee, again, due to Lake Michigan swallowing them whole. ;)
That is when it is most important to defend yourself and what stores you have.
Still others my await the government to provide..
and wait, and wait, ..and wait..
until exhaustion takes over.
The Government is there to defend and provide for itself,.. not provide for the citizenry
Why else would they have food supplies and bunkers for themselves,.. and not for the citizenry ?
The truth is, the warming stopped years ago. Climate has a lot to do with the sun. We have entered a grand solar minimum(sun activity is very low). It’s been named the Eddy Minimum.
The last one in the 1800s was called the Dalton Minimum. These periods are also related to more seismic and volcanic activity. In the early 1800s, the USA experienced a year with out summer, and the New Madrid experienced the big one.
Stock up now, and learn to grow your own food. Learn what sort of things you can grow successfully. There have been food shortages in Europe due to weather that was too cold. Use seeds that mature quickly and are cold tolerant.
The gardening season may well become shorter and cooler. Adjust your plans accordingly. JMHO
Sounds like Virginia Beach.
a way to make hot coffee.

a two-burner butane camping stove and some spare butane cylinders=hot food or coffee or tea.
We have a $25 gadget that allows filling small 1# cylinders from a larger propane tank. We use them with a small Coleman propane heater. Just the thing, along with the wood stove, to survive an outage in winter (or spring or fall). Place coffee in thermos and half-empty cups on top of the wood stove to reheat.
Layers: long underwear/wool and down on top. Cotton sock liners with wool socks. Sheepskin slippers w/outdoor soles. Thin gloves with conductive fingertips for phones/tablets/monitors. Hats. Hoodies.
I’m in rural WI. Winter and outages are just a fact of life.
Once had a 9-day outage in summer (floods and high winds). Did all our cooking/water heating on a grill. Have a year-round spring with a piped outlet for water. Bought ice and filled coolers/freezers for food storage.
Oh: we have a generator and keep gas on hand. We use it sparingly during outages.
I love it when the panic shoppers stock up on cases of water.
Water? Dont they realize what snow is made of?

This today:
Rome blanketed by snow as Arctic storm sets European records
Right on.
I detest Liberals more each day.
So..
You have sufficient stock amassed?
I mean, getting hit with yellow snow has got to be.. an event. ;-)
We finally got one of those little butane stoves, and some extra cylinders for ‘in case’. Before we had it, my husband was impressed that I could get a passable meal around over sterno and tiny camp stoves (again, ‘passable’ ;-)
We live in an apartment, and could grill outside; but weather might make that difficult. We do have a wood-burning fireplace (mostly decorative, not much good for heating the place; but we might be able to stick a casserole or loaf of no-knead bread down in the coals.)
We like Duofold underwear; the kind with a layer of wool.
It’s a good idea to keep bags of ice in your deep-freeze, and bottles of frozen water. The only time I’ve ever been really uncomfortable during an extended power-outage was when we ran out of cold water during a Summer heat-wave with the power out.
“The only time Ive ever been really uncomfortable during an extended power-outage was when we ran out of cold water during a Summer heat-wave with the power out.”
Such LUXURY! Our power only goes out when it’s -20 with Blizzard conditions, LOL! ;)
You’re so smart; a woman of my heart! *SMOOCH* :)
You are too kind. Thanks.
*HEART* I meant it. :)
Well, where we are, we get lots of different kinds of weather - flooding possible in Spring and Autumn; offspring of hurricanes, sometimes; occasionally a big snowstorm followed by an ice storm - I remember once we were stuck inside for over a week, because the snow, with ice on top, was so deep, you couldn’t move a car, and barely walk.
But I think the time that I’m remembering - when I was so hot and thirsty - was that ‘derecho’ thingie, about five years ago - we had never heard that word before, but we were out in it.
Power went out in the drugstore while I was shopping, and husband was at the convenience store next door. Lights went out and they told everybody to get out of the stores; so all we could do was stand outside in the horrendous wind and rain, watching the torrent tear down little trees all around us.
Finally, we could drive home - and saw that an enormous tree had come down over the lines near our neighborhood; and we were out of power for a days, at a time when the weather became very hot. No lights outside - there were police cars outside at night, the cops looking out for us.
I’d really rather be out of power in Winter, than Summer, here - depending on how long it lasted ;-)
Get your case of Pepsi! Order your Chinese Food!
Haha, love it! "Stay warm and be safe!"

Let’s call it a draw and try not to be in EITHER situation! :)
