I was trapped on a floating vomitorium

[snip] Lorraine Thomas is among more than 16,000 passengers impacted by back-to-back outbreaks of norovirus on eight Sun Princess journeys between December 2016 and February 2017, who may be eligible for compensation, according to Shine Lawyers.

Thomas, from Queensland, Australia, had saved up $1,700 for a 14-day voyage to New Zealand with a friend who was celebrating a birthday.

The trip began well enough, aside from an overflowing toilet and cabin keycard difficulties. But about halfway into the voyage, the two friends began to suffer the awful symptoms of the dreaded norovirus.

‘It was horrendous’

When the vomiting struck, Thomas was diagnosed over the phone by the ship’s doctor and told to remain quarantined in her cabin.

She was told someone would come and check on her — but was made to wait 11 miserable hours.

“To be quite honest, it was horrendous,” Thomas told News.com.au.

“It was a small cabin and — I can’t put this any more politely — there was only the ice bucket to be sick in. The basin was blocked, and we had problems with the [toilet] anyway and it kept overflowing.

The vomitorium was not a place where Romans would throwup after gorging themselves on food. The word vomit means to spew forth and the vomitorium was an open concourse where people could exit from an arena. FWIW

Between this and the family that was feuding and terrorizing other passengers for days, who WOULDN’T want to book a cruise right away?

It could be either in the food, or also in the water lines (and therefore the ice in drinks).

A Vomitorium is a part of an arena where people enter and exit before and after a show. Before a show the crowd and the lines are manageable, but during the exit it’s got to be large to allow all of the people leaving at once.

You’re correct, but vomitoria are popularly believed to be rooms where gluttonous Romans went to purge themselves by vomiting so that they could go back to the feast and stuff their faces some more.

I just have no desire to get on a giant floating apartment house jammed in with thousands of obnoxious tourists.

Never, ever, go on a cruise ship owned or operated by Carnival.

W’ve been on 12 Princess cruises and every one of them has been wonderful. On a 15-day LA-HI-LA we had some terrible weather for a couple days, but that’s not Princess’ fault.

I’d never go on a Carnival cruise. I know Princess is owned by Carnival and I don’t get why Carnival is so bad. Did that once; never again.

Journalists no longer know the difference between gender and sex, may and might, or of and from, so you they hardly could be expected to know what a vomitorium REALLY is.

I can be very biased about cruise ships as i was a senior officer on one many years ago, but in all honesty there is good boats, bad boats, good crews and bad crews. Ultimately its the passengers, their health habits like not washing hands before using buffet line utensils. Or just a certain demographic group that in the old days we called “steerage”.

3 day cruises are the worst, non stop drinking, no respect of privacy, manners or dress. Just a bunch of hooligans who will sleep in their own vomit if needed.

I actually was planning on a future cruise and Princess is at the top of my list even knowing its Carnival owned. Critics will say Celebrity is highest rated but I’m old fashioned to the point i could be satisfied just booking a room on the landlocked Queen Mary which i have been on.

These new mega cruise ships like the Anthem of the Seas, the RCL ships to me are just a floating Vegas Hotel, casino and shopping mall. And very dependant upon the auspices of its captains as its been seen with the Oceana and Costa Concordia.

Would i cruise a ship with 6,000 passengers? Yes, but i would be rubbing shoulders nor hands at the buffet lines, i would book a suite and get the option of seperate dining, pool, jacuzzi and service like Norwegians Haven service has.

Its all about class, of which they are monopolizing, low fares will bring in more people, and often with ill effects, cruisers who go out of their way to make it miserable for what they perceived as the elites.

One could horribly image a boat full of grumpled drunk Bernie Sanders supporters wuth a scattering of antifa thugs intermixed with dim witted liberal minded female followers.

Yet often the crew foreign, Philipinos predominant, they are the prisoners to it all, keep up the grin and polite manners to the whole thing.

Yet still i pine for a month long excursion on a real south Pacific cruise, no stops at sheethole ports.... expensive enough to filter the class of passengers and long enough to make it quite literally, the cruise of a lifetime.
