APPOMATTOX, VA. On April 9, 1865, Gen. Robert E. Lee strode onto the porch of a two-story brick home and stared out at a lawn filled with Union soldiers, his Confederate staff of two, and his horse Traveler.
Still wearing full military dress, Lee raised his gloved hands and punched his left fist into his right palm. The sound of leather meeting leather echoed in the unsteady silence.
Then, as Lee mounted Traveler, Major Gen. Ulysses S. Grant emerged from the house onto the porch.
Now facing each other, Grant raised his hat, as did Lee. It wasnt a salute, but clearly an acknowledgment of the moment.
As Lee turned towards the dirt road and headed east towards his troops, the 198th Pennsylvania Infantry played Auld Lang Syne.
The Civil War was over.
As the sun rose that morning neither man would know by mid-afternoon the war, for all intents and purposes, would end that day, explained Ernie Price, a park ranger and director of education at Appomattox National Park.
But by mid-morning, Lee knew the Confederate cause was finished. He sent a message to Grant to meet for the purpose of surrender, and the Appomattox home of grocer Wilmer McLean was chosen for the moment.
When they met, Grant was poorly dressed, his uniform rumpled and covered in mud from the ride the night before. Years later in his memoirs, he admitted that he had no idea what he was going to ask from Lee in the surrender.
Yet, once he sat down at a small spindle desk in McLeans front parlor, words of reconciliation poured out....

Here is the song that was sang that every American knows.

It took 600,000 dead in combat between one another for Americans to realize they needed to unite, though, and I dare say the US wasn’t really reunited until WWII and shortly thereafter.
I don’t think America will ever be united again.
All the fighting, destruction, death, fear and suffering had purged the raw hate each had for the other side. Reconciliation was only possible only after the horror of war was palpably experienced. Sorry but the basis for a real consensus that now divides Americans does not exist. Perhaps another civil war is not imminent but people should not be surprised by periodic outbursts of violence and open expressions of hate.
“I dont think America will ever be united again.”

I agree.
From the moment the courts started creating “protected groups” the end was in sight.
.
I have no desire to reconcile with the treacherous left. Im not on the same side as Michael Moore or Stephen Colbert or any other of their scumbags.
Neither Grant nor Lee were commies. Sorry...I had to point that out!
The song's Scots title may be translated into standard English as "old long since", or more idiomatically, "long long ago", "days gone by" or "old times". Consequently, "For auld lang syne", as it appears in the first line of the chorus, might be loosely translated as "for (the sake of) old times"
This is apples and oranges. The Civil war wasn’t about a global one world government cabal trying to take over. GH s country will never unite unless we are being invaded by a common enemy or the Yellowstone caldera erupts or the grid goes down. CW11 will just be the winner forcing the loser to submit.
I have no desire to reconcile with the treacherous left. Im not on the same side as Michael Moore or Stephen Colbert or any other of their scumbags.

I’m with you. I want no part of them and their ilk. We cannot reconcile with enemies of all that is good and decent.
We will be defeated only if we fail to find each other in love. Not a squishy love that ignores evil but a firm love that requires the best in us.
We will love our neighbors into a deeper and stronger understanding of the absolute necessity of our unity guided by the unquenchable authority of our forefathers.
We are one people established with inalienable rights and privileges. Among these are the ones we know and a few we have forgotten.
The love of God is one such privilege. Absolute responsibility for our actions and personal responsibility for the protection of our families are two more privileges.
The deceivers who deny our heritage will be silenced when we stop listening to them. Many will be shamed into silence. Others wills stop their chatter when they discover no one is listening.
I understand your points.
Real Americans are united. It’s the anti-Americans, aka the hillary/obama voters, who are in desperate need of sterilization and deportation.
We will never be reunited with those who seek to dominate us because we disagree with them. It’s a war of “just leave me the hell alone” versus “you’re either with us or against us”.
Govern yourselves accordingly. Start with ammo inventory.
Neither do I. There is a concerted effort to undermine us and leave us irrelevant and powerless and then gone. Regional splits.
Too many democratic voters live with their head in the sand.
The Left is what divides this nation. Go talk to a Lefty and you will see that there will never be a meeting point. They are multiple generations of indoctrination and social re-engineering. They co-opted Women, Blacks, Kids, and every other group that could be a divisive tool. Add the refuse of illegals and Muslims, and one can see how arrogant and cocky they were to shoo Clinton in. Let’s not forget the stupidest generation of all time, the Millennials, who almost gave us a Socialist President in Sanders. Sometimes the only answer besides nuke from space is good ‘ol fashioned CWII.
You’re right on.
That’s right. And anyone who doesn’t realize that if they could, they’d haul us off in box cars is naïve and ignorant of what’s going on.
Neither Grant nor Lee were commies. Sorry...I had to point that out!

It is an excellent point.
