Melania Trump Visits ‘Prescribed to Death’ Memorial to Honor Opioid Victims (Photos)

First Lady Melania Trump visited the “Prescribed to Death” memorial this week for Americans who have died in the opioid crisis. Mrs. Trump kept her ensemble colorful in a pale pink Max Mara coat, similar to a Jil Sander coat she has previously worn, and a yellow-green dress that perfectly matched a pair of yellow-green, suede Christian Louboutins.

The chilly Spring has kept Mrs. Trump in a series of suits, coats, and pants, though she has celebrated the season in bright colors. Mrs. Trump wore a similar color palette last month in a coral Emilio Pucci suit and yellow sweater.

Mrs. Trump has dedicated herself to visiting sites that work to help families of those struggling with addiction.

“As you know, the opioid epidemic and how it affects children and families has been one of the issue areas Mrs. Trump is focused on, so going to the memorial was something she wanted to do as soon as it was announced,” the first lady’s spokesperson said on Monday.

Talk about a mental disconnect. I read that as “Michelle Obama” and thought, ‘wow, I agree with her. It must be a stopped clock thing”.

Then I realized it wasn’t Michelle, which makes sense. :)

Thank You for the Ping and Post Simpson96.

There are few things on this earth I hate more than pills.

Bless Our First Lady bringing efforts to put a stop to this.

Maybe its my imagination, but the whole “opioid epidemic” PR campaign feels artificial, like we’re being stampeded toward something.

“Maybe its my imagination, but the whole “opioid epidemic” PR campaign feels artificial, like we’re being stampeded toward something.”

I had that feeling, too! Having gone through this with an ex-husband and step-son (son is doing fine; not much hope for the ex) and losing a nephew to a heroin overdose, I have a feeling that what we’re being pushed towards is another round of ‘you don’t have to take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS...’

I hope we’re wrong. I don’t see the Trumps ‘selling’ it like that, but this is the FIRST I’ve heard of this ‘memorial.’ Seems silly to me to glorify people that CHOSE to do this to themselves, when there is plenty of help available if you WANT to get your act together.

But, I’m mean that way. ;)

(I DO make exception to those who have died while under medical supervision - as has happened in our own VA Hospital. Grrrr!)

The DEA is supposed to keep illegal drugs out of the country.
The DEA controls the doctors who can prescribe. The DEA makes you take piss tests while you are on opiate medication to insure you are taking it properly. The DEA know exactly how many opiate Rxs get filled every day, TO THE PILL, LITERALLY, EXACTLY how many and what strength pills you can have, yet they have no answers for this “epidemic” of over doses?

All very pertinent points when the First Lady enters the “memorial” wearing to a Jil Sander coat she has previously worn, and a yellow-green dress that perfectly matched a pair of yellow-green, suede Christian Louboutins.

Sorry. Ima calling BULL$hit!!

“The DEA is supposed to keep illegal drugs out of the country.

Lets not forget the thousands who have been denied their pain meds since the “crisis” hit the press.

Here in VA the legislature passed a law where doctors are forced to send their pain patients to Pain Management Therapy.
This includes monthly drug tests and prescription of ineffective meds that the average pain patient had already tried with no effect on their pain.
In the end the patient is told they are an addict and denied the effective meds they need.

I am one such patient.
I have terrible neuropathy in both legs that is like millions of white hot needles pricking me from my hips to my toes.
I dealt with it during the day but took ONE hydrocodone at night to get some sleep.
When my doctor retired no new doctor could take me as a pain patient and I was forced into PMT.
My insurance doesn’t cover it and it’s too expensive to go to every month just to be told I’m an addict and denied the only med that allowed me 7 hours of pain free sleep.

I know some pain patients who have started buying from drug dealers just to get a little relief.
I haven’t but I understand why they do.

Its all a case of FOLLOW THE MONEY.
Like you I call BS on the whole thing.

I am hearing stories like yours that contrast sharply with mine. I just had lower back surgery around Thanksgiving. Before the cutting I was hurting so bad I was on over 80 mg of Hydrocodone a day (60-10mg APAP for $26.00). Then they switched me over to ZoHydro er ($575.00 for a bottle of 60). I had to take pee tests to insure I was medicating as prescribed.

“The Crisis” does not include legitimate medical patience taking their meds as prescribed!!!

“The Crisis” is not the citizen you have turned into a criminal who is seeking this medication in the streets, although he will come in contact with and possibly be swallowed up by it.

The street medication has been adulterated and watered down to the point its ineffective, BUT the “fintanyl” (rat poison) is cheep and the dealers had no problems with their mules packing tons and tons of the stuff across our southern border......but thats probly NOT “The Crisis”.

Why is Breitbart rhapsodizing about Melania’s clothing rather than explaining the “Prescribed to Death” exhibit more fully, and the many thousands of deaths annually from opioid abuse? Our church just supported the funeral of a 30-year-old man from a good family, a man who had several young children, dead from this scourge. Another person I know of who uses “for pain” has a a graduate education, a very responsible job and many family obligations. This is a national crisis.

““The Crisis” does not include legitimate medical patience taking their meds as prescribed!!!”

But the law makes no distinctions.
If it did politicians couldn’t pat themselves on the back for laws that only hurt the law abiding citizen.

The doctor who originally prescribed the hydrocodone for me wasn’t a pill pusher. Over a period of two years we went through every known pain med known before he prescribed the hydro, the only thing that helped the pain.

The ONE time I went to PMT I was told that “addicts” like me were the cause of the problem. That we began as legitimate pain patients then spiraled out of control due to our “addiction”.
They increased my gabapentin from 900mg daily to 3000mg daily. In 6 days my vision was so bad I could barely walk around the house much less drive and I was sleeping 18+ hours a day.
When I called the PMT about it they simply told me to continue the medication as prescribed.

I called my neurologist who had a fit.
He gave me instructions on cutting the gabapentin back. It took 5 weeks to get back to my former dose of gab.
I called the PMT and cancelled my next appointment and haven’t been back.

I’ve always had a high pain threshold but chronic pain is a horse of another color.

The DEA knows who is importing the drugs.
The DEA knows what docs are over prescribing.
The DEA needs to go after the doctors instead of the legitimate patients who need the meds.

Adequate border control and DEA interdiction at air and sea ports would do wonders to clamp down on the availability of the street drugs.
