The first known epidemic of extensively drug-resistant typhoid is spreading through Pakistan, infecting at least 850 people in 14 districts since 2016, according to the National Institute of Health Islamabad.
The typhoid strain, resistant to five types of antibiotics, is expected to disseminate globally, replacing weaker strains where they are endemic. Experts have identified only one remaining oral antibiotic — azithromycin — to combat it; one more genetic mutation could make typhoid untreatable in some areas.

Interesting, Pakistan was on par with India at the time of the partition in 1948. One chose to base their legal system on their legacy from British colonial law, the other chose Sharia law.
Guess which one is in striking distance from emerging from their third world status and which has shrunk deeper into it. Why do you suppose that is?

It is a mystery. Millions of Muslims live in India, only a handful of Hindus live in Pakistan. A large number of Muslims live in Israel, but no Jews are allowed in “Palestine”. Muslims can visit the Vatican, but it is death for a non-Muslim to set food in Mecca/Medina. But it is Muslims who are the victims of discrimination and non-Muslims who are intolerant.
