Now wait. I once saw a news story that let every girl on the cheerleading squad but here was the catch. She must have a C average and show up for every practice unless she has a doc’s note. It worked out well. Was about 100 girl on the squad and they seemed to love it. This story was decades ago. So why not use the same rules?
How asinine. With this logic, why not put 25 people on the basketball team, or 200 on the FB team?
This is what we used to call a pep club, what’s wrong with that? Anybody can be in the pep club.
I wonder if the mother was a protected minority or someone of influence.
Everyone should make the football team too———it’s only fair.

This story really gets me. So now we’re saying, the concept of team tryouts is discriminatory. They are trying to say you can’t have tryouts and see who makes a team because some will be left out. The very concept of any competition for anything is now considered wrong.
God knows what life lessons these kids are going to learn from this sort of episode.
So now that we can’t have tryouts for teams, and this concept can undoubtedly be applied to sports teams as well, then what’s next?
They seem to think that everyone gets the same abilities and talents, but that opportunities are unequal.
Exactly the opposite.
I want to play in the NBA. I can’t jump, play defense, or rebound. I can hit 75% from the 15-18 ft range as long as nobody guards me. An old, white bald guy would add to diversity. Sign me to a contract. I’ll play for $3 million a year.
Not just make the football team. Everyone can be quarterback!!
It’s the same thinking that has precipitated the student loan crisis - “everyone deserves to go to college!” All it has done is driven up costs due to unlimited student loans, and make kids feel like they can take 6 years to graduate into a phony, make-work career that will never allow them to get out of debt.

They choose from a lottery each week to see who gets to ‘cheer’?
Ehhh. It is even more mealy-mouthed of a policy than I had imagined.
This will make these kids think if they get an interview for a job, they should automatically be hired...
I hope that someone teaches these kids that when they get into the workforce and apply for a job, not everyone who applied is going to get it.
I understand some of this. I have a special needs daughter who was excluded out of all extra curricular activities during high school because she wasn’t good enough. Her identical twin was the total opposite. Very good at lots of things
It would be nice to have clubs that are open to every one to learn the activity, and then maybe perform at some event.
For cheerleading, maybe the best kids performs at varsity football games, and the others perform at different sporting events (junior varsity football, basketball, the girls soccer team).
There are ways to include all kids who want to participate, and honor those that are the best.
My daughter loved theater and never got to be in a theater show in 4 years of high school. She was totally excluded out of that group. (Since her identical twin was a very good actress, it made it worse.) She was never invited to the parties. She never had after school activities to go to. It was hard to make friends.
She did a summer theater program where everyone us casts too. They cast her as an evil step-sister in Cinderella her last year, and my daughter rocked her part. She just needed to be given an opportunity.
She had speech problems. I think directors thought she couldn’t memorize lines. However, she is actually better than most at memorization. Also, her speech is pretty normal if it is something she memorized and practiced. She shocked people. They underestimated her.
