Wash, rinse, air dry. Home ec major here. We were told to wash, put the dishes in a drainer and pour very hot water over all. Allow to air dry.
My fami!y, for some reason, washes, rinses, and sets in a towel to dry. Personally stopped using a regular drainer with the bottom tray and use a copper wire drainer over a towel.

Exactly. How do the British overlook the fact that auto dishwashers rinse dishes? Would seem to be important.
I’d ask them if when they take a shower if they just walk out all soaped up and dry off.
My mother-in-law did that before she got a dish washer. Thank goodness to dishwashers!!!!
I rinse all to hell in hot water. I just try to conserve water in other ways.
Heating water is one of the most energy hogging activities in a home. I try to conserve hot water for this reason.

That's how my stepmother would do it, but I always did think she and her whole damned family were retarded. Since moving out on my own, I always rinse under fresh running water when doing a dishes by hand, otherwise I throw them into the dishwasher.

For something like that 2-3 usually does it depending on the size.
It has a lot of silica in it and works great as a scrubbie.
Do NOT bring it home to plant in your yard or it will take over everything and you will have to nuke the place from orbit to get rid of it.

Yes I do rinse and make it a point to alternate between boiling hot water and cold. My family members think I waste too much water but semi-washed and semi-rinsed dishes are my BIGGEST pet peeve. Especially if the soap being used is hyper-chemical derived and not all natural-plant based. OCD I know. :)
I also loathe it when dishes are dried with towels which are clearly used and not clean.
Please people, use the dishwasher machine if you can’t bother doing it fully by hand. (Even still they may need a re-rinsing depending on age and functionality of machine.) Eek!
At least 35+ years ago, it was very standard for them not to rinse their dishes at all—and for Americans to be horrified by it.
Of course, dish detergent is different than hand soap...
Oh, and I never tasted residue from it.
