I was promised total coverage when I first joined in 1970. There were no caveats at all mentioned. I now have a large cost share, annual fee, and co-pays.

And the politicos gloss over their subterfuge with pablum declarations of love for vets and thanking us for our service.

Be nice if we could continue with TriCare rather then going on Medicare at 65.

Once you hit Medicare eligibility, you get TriCare-for-Life, which is as good, if not better than the high-dollar supplemental insurance that BC/BS sells for about 210 bucks a month.

Now that is a travesty.

Luck of the draw...I've got the same doc I signed up with back in '92, when I retired and moved to this area.

Currently, my medical care doesn't cost a thing, other than the 115 bucks or so they take out of my SS, but I'm in a Medicare-friendly area, too and that makes a difference.

Now my eligible family...that's another story.

I put out an average of about a hundred a month for my wife, just for her co-pays, plus medicine from that PITA "Express-Scripts".

It just keeps on rising...and they DID tell me that it would be free and they'd always take care of my family.

Yeah...not so much...but still a hell of lot better than a lot of other folks...so I really should just shut up and enjoy, huh?

Truly, I am blessed with what I have, but I still get a little p'd over the lie.

And he did lie.

US Senate website where I don’t see anything. It still could be there since there are hundreds to thousands of documents about Tricare.

When I joined the Air Force in 1965, one of the big hooks for a career was “free complete medical care” for the remainder of your life. That included medical, dental, vision, hearing, and mental. When I retired in 1987, all I was granted was Tricare, which paid 80% of medical; no vision, no hearing, no dental. I had to get a suplemental policy.
I read a letter to the editor of the AF Times; “During times of conflict, there is nothing too good for the American GI, during peacetime, that’s exactly what he/she gets; the next time the American GI is needed, that may be what America gets! You cannot depend on our government unless you’re drawing social benefits; then you’re home free!

I wonder if anyone ever took it to the SCOTUS?

Yes. Their ruling was the healthcare for life was not in our written contracts, just verbal promises and TV/Radio advertisements. The promises not written into our contracts were not enforceable.

Tricare has been very simple to use and good for me as a retiree. Not one issue.....thus far. I’m grateful with my retirement pay, disability pay and Space A free travel benefits. Just lucky not experiencing any bad luck at all thus far.....

Thanks for the information ..... will write, call and email my congress critters ASAP.

Stay Safe !

Yep - and before many of us retired, they had changed the rules and we ended up paying TriCare (good deal compared to civilians, but a huge broken promise)....now they want to further break the broken promise.

Since my wife and I are both over 65, it may not change much for us (until Medicare for us TriCare for Life folks goes up) but it sucks what they are doing - especially for those who have been planning and saving for retirement with certain "knowledge" of future conditions based on promises....they are now behind the eight ball and short with littler time to rearrange things.

For those who were told they had free health care for life, they lied after 1956, as it wasn’t in the printed contract.

No Kidding. BS, but true.

https://www.military.com/militaryadvantage/2012/05/is-there-a-promise-of-free-health-care-for-life

USAF Colonel George “Bud” Day, a lawyer and a Medal of Honor winner, took this implied free medical care issue for retiree to the Supreme Court and the court, in a compromise verdict, ruled that any military veteran who served prior to a date in 1956 and were honorably retired were eligible for free medical care under TRICARE For Life. There are few of us still living and our numbers decrease daily.

Tommy

I went into a public-’ouse to get a pint o’ beer,
The publican ‘e up an’ sez, “We serve no red-coats here.”
The girls be’ind the bar they laughed an’ giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an’ to myself sez I:
O it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, go away”;
But it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but ‘adn’t none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-’alls,
But when it comes to fightin’, Lord! they’ll shove me in the stalls!
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, wait outside”;
But it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide,
The troopship’s on the tide, my boys, the troopship’s on the tide,
O it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide.

Yes, makin’ mock o’ uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an’ they’re starvation cheap;
An’ hustlin’ drunken soldiers when they’re goin’ large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin’ in full kit.
Then it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, ‘ow’s yer soul?”
But it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll.

We aren’t no thin red ‘eroes, nor we aren’t no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An’ if sometimes our conduck isn’t all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don’t grow into plaster saints;
While it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, fall be’ind”,
But it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind,
There’s trouble in the wind, my boys, there’s trouble in the wind,
O it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind.

You talk o’ better food for us, an’ schools, an’ fires, an’ all:
We’ll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don’t mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow’s Uniform is not the soldier-man’s disgrace.
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Chuck him out, the brute!”
But it’s “Saviour of ‘is country” when the guns begin to shoot;
An’ it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please;
An’ Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool — you bet that Tommy sees!

Tricare co-pays went up this year too. Many drugs removed from Formulary, Tricare Life which is paired with Medicare, saw MEDICARE PREMIUMS RISE $1,569, we got a whole $12 a year, along with co-pay increases. The 3% COLA raise next year that is being purposed, $42 for the wallet, over $1,300 in Medicare Premiums on top of increased CO-PAYS.

Only thing both Dems and GOP have done is SHAFT SENIORS. But sure know how to spend big BUCKS on ILLEGALS!

I am furious. Co-pays already went up and are going up again. I will NEVER vote for any congressmen that signed this bill.

I would just be happy if I could just get Tricare and my healthcare provider to communicate with each other about what I owe and what I don’t owe.

It’s like a scene out of Idiocracy.
