Your link discussed dog and cat fatalities. I am interested in human fatalities. I am interested in the breakdown among human fatalities by breed. That is what I was saying about pit bulls being 20 times more likely to kill. I am not super worried how many cats they kill.

So from the link below, it says in the 13 years from 2005 to 2017,dogs killed 433 people.

Pit bulls killed 284 people.

Rottweilers killed 45 people.

So Pit bulls were 7 times more likely to kill someone than Rottweilers.

That is what I meant. Your 300 times number includes dogs and cats. Concerning, but I was wondering about human deaths. It sucks when pit bull Bruiser eats your tabby. It is beyond horrifying when Bruiser eats your daughter or your mother.

Owners of pit bulls should be required to pay annual liability insurance. If they refuse, the animal is to be taken away and euthanized.

The numbers given did include animals - pets and livestock (including horses, cattle, and llamas) and humans combined.

Here are other statistics, perhaps you might wish to bookmark them, as I try to do. Here are three places where the information on human fatalities by dog exist.

The first contains worldwide information, but goes up to 2013:
https://occupymaulstreet.blogspot.com/

The second, which is actually a page of the dogsbite.org website (This is a huge, 400 page source) is here, but does not include the 91 YO man in Alameda I posted on last month, or the Dogo Argentino (oversized big white pit bull)breeder’s wife last week, both of which I posted, see keyword “dog”.

https://www.fatalpitbullattacks.com/

The third, which is on the Animals24-7 website page, has been documented for over 30 years. Merritt Clifton, who writes these, is not a conservative, but I have no quarrel with his statistics or analysis. This one is laid out by breed. I would enlarge it and print it out. There is an article in his website about his statistical weighting. I believe it is somewhere in the article section labeled
“Pit Stop Archive”.

Hmm. Such as in owning a vehicle?

Or would it be a tax, as the Obamacare act was designed to be. . . I am looking for a framework, a precedent, if you will, for a legal solution.

Make dogfighting a class B felony. Make breeding dogs for dogfighting a class B felony. Make selling dogs for dogfighting a class B felony. Make participating in dogfights a class B felony. All with nice long prison sentences and six figure fines.

A few high profile trials, convictions, and long prison sentences meted out...Problem solved.

And if folks still want one of these critters for love of the dog, they’ll stand a better chance of getting one that hasn’t been bred to slaughter.

This https://www.animals24-7.org/2018/01/08/57-dog-attack-deaths-645-disfigurements-in-2017-led-by-pit-bulls/ is what I believe you are actually wanting.

From the above article:

“Pit bulls killed 40 people in 2017, 39 in the U.S. and one in Canada, a total of 12 more people than were killed by pit bulls in 2016 and five more than the previous record of 34 killed in 2015.”

I had actually thought (erroneously, as it turned out) that the number was 29, which is one death every 12.5 days. With the corrected number, the number is actually one death by pit bull mauling in the USA every 9.3 days.

(Aha) In addition, the article includes the methodology for which I was searching in my last comment.

This is a legal solution, but I am unsure of the viability.

It seems to be equivalent to the drug issue. There are already so many laws.

The problem is that the laws aren’t harsh enough. They have to strengthened abd enforced by a hard a$$ prosecutors and judges. I’d be happy to try it. Throw the book at some of the expletives-deleted participating in dogfighting and then see if the market for feral dogzillas dries up.

Very well.

A lot of Breed Specific Laws (BSL) are in place in over 1000 municipalities in the US.

Would you prefer to begin by researching and assisting to enforce Dogfighting laws, or drafting new ones?

Also, at what level - city, county, or state.

If you are seriously proposing to begin this, I stand in awe. The problem is a juggernaut. Do let me know how I may assist, please.
