Anthony Anderson Under Criminal Investigation, Disputes Woman’s Claims of Assault
Variety ^ | July 20, 2018 | Ellis Clopton

“Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson is currently under criminal investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to The Blast, Anderson allegedly assaulted a woman last year after an event she catered for the actor.

“It’s unfortunate that anyone can file a police report, whether it is true or false,” Anderson’s rep said in a statement to Variety. “The authorities have not contacted Anthony or any of his representatives about this matter. Anthony unequivocally disputes the claim.”

The Blast cited sources familiar with the situation, who said the woman met with Anderson a second time after the event to discuss future business opportunities with the actor when the assault occurred. She later filed a police report with the Hollywood Division of the LAPD.

The LAPD confirmed to Variety that a criminal investigation is underway, but had no additional information at this time and could not reveal the nature of the inquiry.

Though the woman apparently did not file a report directly after the alleged incident occurred, according to The Blast, she felt comfortable coming forward months later due in part to the Me Too movement, which has seen numerous women open up about experiences of abuse at the hands of powerful men in the entertainment industry.

The incident isn’t the first time Anderson has been accused of misconduct. He and assistant director Wayne Witherspoon were accused of raping an extra on the set of the 2004 film “Hustle & Flow,” but the charges were later dropped when the judge ruled that there was no probable cause to try the case.

The actor just received his fourth straight Emmy nomination for his role as patriarch Andre Johnson in Kenya Barris’ ABC family sitcom “Black-ish.” He is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame later this year.

Men pretty much have to record EVERY interaction with women...that seems to be the end game now.

Or ... not hire or do business with women that you might have to interact with when there are no witnesses. There are laws about hiring people as employees but you don’t have to hire a female to cater your party. At this point it’s wise not to if you’re a man.

3,2,1 .... freeper men taking his side automatically. I’ll wait to hear more. But I would be disappointed as he seems funny and nice. But, hey, hey, hey, so did Cosby.

Think, please, freeper men, about the usag gymnast girls, even Olympians. All being molested by their doctor for decades (different girls at different times) and no one believed them. No one.

I know some women are scum enough to falsely accuse. But probably most really were victimized. I wish all these freeper men could spend a week working as a cute 18 year old girl in a catering firm doing Hollywood parties. See if they really truly still think it’s always the woman’s fault she gets molested and treated poorly.

Just because you feel bad afterwards and he didn’t call you back doesn’t make it rape.

Reminds me of a cousin of mine who works in a small tech business. The business is small enough not to be bothered by the feds, and being in Texas, it’s also not bothered by state. It’s all guys. Their lawyers told them to NEVER hire a woman, because the moment she heard the ‘banter’ in that office, they’d be sued.

They’re following that advice.

A few people commented on Anderson under Deadline’s article. Seems that Anderson’s behavior is an open secret in Hollywood:

“Men pretty much have to record EVERY interaction with women...that seems to be the end game now.”

But Vice President Pence is a stupid, backwards, hick, patriarchal, redneck, yokel for refusing to be alone with any woman who isn’t his wife.

It’s called a “punch in the mouth”.

I don’t know what he is suspected of doing. But I agree with you. Rape happens when it happens, not afterward when the woman regrets her choice. But going out with a man doesn’t equal ok to attack, neither does meeting for business in his hotel room, neither does serving you a drink. Naïveté or sexy clothes is not a license to force sex on someone.

Again, I have no idea of this accusation or behavior, just speaking in general.

You’re right. People shocked he’s lasted this long after #metoo. Sheesh. So many men were real scum and just got away with it forever.

Again, for freeper misogynists: I’m not talking about hitting on a woman, showing interest, flirting, being a player, sleeping with lots of willing partners, NONE OF THAT. It sounds from the tone of these messages (again, I know nothing about Anthony) that he is known for the kind of assaults that you call the cops on. You guys all defended Bill Cosby but you’d all have shot Cos if he drugged your daughter and used her as a human Kleenex.
