She briefly disputed that ruling, saying cheating "is the one thing I've never done, ever" — although afterward, her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, acknowledged he was trying to send Williams a signal.

D'oh!

I’ve read several articles and watched videos of this.

Williams put on one of, if not the most disgraceful pathetic displays of unsportsmanlike conduct I’ve ever seen in sports.

She was wrong from start to finish of her tantrum.

And the Japanese winner Osaka, in traditional Japanese fashion, actually apologized for defeating the tournament favorite............
***************************************************
This young newcomer was the class of the championship. Serena Williams revealed her LACK of class as did her fans in the stadium.

Hope to see much more of Osaka and much less of Williams and her crew.

The worst display of conduct since Serena threatened the line judge in 2009:

indeed, most of the FakeNewsMSM are leaving out her threat to the umpire:

9 Sept: MetroUK: It’s Serena Williams who owes US Open umpire Carlos Ramos an apology – not the other way around
by George Bellshaw
Here’s a fragment of what Serena said: ‘You owe me an apology. ***You will never ever ever be on another court of mine as long as you live. You are a liar. Say it, say you’re sorry. You stole a point from me. You’re a thief, too.’...

It’s true that other umpires aren’t so willing to call coaching violations. But there are countless examples of Ramos taking on the game’s biggest stars. He’s a stickler for the rules. In fact, he’s one of the few umpires who correctly applies them.
This wasn’t personal. Serena made it personal...

some are leaving out this too from her presentation speech, or at least the second bit where she added - “and I was rooting, too” (for herself).

I don’t think she added “for me”, perhaps realising how bad it was all sounding; after all, there were some spectators who were supporting Osaka.

9 Sept: Yahoo: ‘Heartbreaking’: Naomi Osaka brought to tears as US Open fans boo
by Zach Workman-Brown
“I know you guys were here rooting for me, and we’ll get through it”...
https://au.sports.yahoo.com/heartbreaking-naomi-osaka-brought-tears-us-open-fans-boo-221619707.html

finally, why wasn’t the umpire, Carlos Ramos, given a small gift at the beginning of the presentation, as usually happens? was he, as some have suggested online, banned from the presentation by Serena? or the USTA? or was it his personal decision?
could someone explain.

"verbal abuse" is defined as "a statement about an official, opponent, sponsor, spectator or other person that implies dishonesty or is derogatory, insulting or otherwise abusive."

And if you still don't understand, just go to YouTube and search on "John McEnroe", the biggest whiner in sports history.

I actually watched tennis in the 1990s. The Williams sisters put me off that permanently.

During the course of this tournament, I tuned in at least 3 dozen times to watch a few minutes here and there.

There was certainly an abnormal number of lines-men, lines-women, and ball boys/girls “of color” assigned to Serena’s match yesterday, compared to other random snapshots of weeks of matches that I watched. One of the ball boys (normally appearing to be early to mid- teens) looked like he was about 25 years old, but he fit the bill in another racial sense.

I’m sure this was due to the “random” nature of match assignments of the tournament support staff. Wink, wink.

Not a fan. Could care less what these sisters do or don’t do.

But coaching? Really? I’m, as I write, watching a baseball game. Coaching from 3rd base, 1st base and from the dugout.

Caddy’s recommend clubs.

What’s the big deal.

Check her for roids. That looks like more of an issue.

I suspect that in the future there will be more spectators supporting Osaka and fewer spectators supporting Williams.

Thanks for that. That was pretty bad. I try to root for the Americans in these things, but how can one root for that?

Is that an older pic? I think she looks even bigger these days. You know, 50 or so pounds of post-baby weight.

So why wasn’t her coach fined if he admitted he was trying to send a signal? I don’t follow tennis and its rules, but it seems like he was the originator of the “wrong” here. Not excusing her resulting behavior, just trying to understand.
