What we did in the Navy when performing interdiction (drugs) duty was to embed a Coast Guard officer with each unit. CG officers can make arrests where as Naval Officers can't (unless that person arrested is actually in the USN). So the CG officer would take a squad/patrol of armed US sailors to search a vessel and if contraband was found the CG Officer makes the formal arrest.

Even our CO couldn't do that. A US Navy officer arresting someone in international waters is considered an act of war. Where the Coast Guard can make arrests under international treaty.

I imagine they’ll be changing sh*tty diapers, babysitting, handing out food, water and welcome baskets.

I am just speculating that if Pres. Trump does impose martial law, it will not be until after the election.

They most certainly should be preparing for war.

Posse Comitatus allows for domestic law enforcement use, with Congressional authorization.

The Congress has provided standing authorization for certain such uses, specifically including stopping illegal aliens at the border (such as the Defense Authorization Act of 2007).

They also specifically recognize the President’s Constitutional authority, which includes protecting against invasion.

All that is needed is for the President to determine that it is needed, or for the DHS Secretary to request it.

Test this. See what the sc says. Should be more interesting now than it would have been a month ago.

Again trusting CNN to tell the truth is foolhardy.

The US Constitution says no such thing. In fact, Article IV states in
Section 4:

The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion…

The Posse Comitatus Act is an 1878 act that was enacted to prevent Union troops from continuing to enforce federal laws in the defeated South after the American Civil war.

Here is the text as modified by Congress in recent years:

Sec. 1385. – Use of Army and Air Force as posse comitatus

Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly AUTHORIZED BY THE CONSTITUTION OR AN ACT OF CONGRESS, willfully uses any part of the Army or the Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

Therefore in this case of CNN’s manure, they are, again, irrelevant. So much for Trump’s decision to protect our security. He’s well within his rights and those of the people he represents. You go POTUS!!

What is needed is a Caravan of Veterans to go to the border to do what the military isn’t allowed to do.

Wow, really? So troops can’t protect the US border from invasion?

Yes, they can protect our border. This article was from CNN and should have had a barf alert - my bad.

Many have posted good information on this thread about what can and cannot be done by our troops.

By the way, this statement is directly from the White House email:

“Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the migrant caravan headed for the U.S. southern border will not cross over into the United States, on ‘Fox News Sunday,’” Nick Givas writes in The Daily Caller. “There is a legal way to enter this country. Those who choose to enter illegally will be stopped,” Secretary Nielsen said.”

I gave the article some merit because on Fox last Friday there was an “expert” from law enforcement who said something similar. He said only law enforcement could act on the border and it was unconstitutional for the army to have a role there.

Well, that may be true....but others have said if the President - or the governors - declare Martial Law on the border, he can use US troops to enforce the Martial Law. That may become necessary.

Ok, after reading a lot of macho bluster from lots of “Keyboard Kommandos”, I’ve come to some conclusions. Call me “Jeb”, I don’t care, but here’s how I see it, and it’s just my opinion:

1. The caravan(s) will arrive at the US border right before election day.
2. There will be NO martial law.
3. The US military will NOT be standing like a phalanx with fixed bayonets to repel invaders.
4. The US will cut a deal with Mexico, probably already done, to allow FEMA or some such to provide temporary shelters on the Mexican side for all the caravan crowd.
5. The US military will be FEMA’s GoFers to run logistics and make sure food, water and sanitary conditions are provided.
6. All the caravan people will be pre-processed in turn, with those who are obvious “undesirables” taken aside for shipment back to where they came from.
7. Those who pass the pre-processing will be funneled through the immigration process, given a hearing date, and let go inside the US territory.
8. Anyone inside the US who attempts to interfere with this process will be arrested and charged with something or other.
9. The processing plan will not be revealed in detail until AFTER election day.
10. After election day, regardless of the outcome, everyone will go back to political “BS as usual”.

PLEASE, TRUMP, PROVE ME WRONG! But after watching politics for decades I really don’t believe I am.

Welcome. But add one thing to it. Remember that the Branch Davidian fire in Waco, Texas, was started inside the compound after Koresh asked Deputy Sheriff Lynch on the phone why they sent seven seals they could see to storm the compound. So it’s been done before. And that time it was against US citizens and not invading aliens.

https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/10-things-you-may-not-know-about-waco/

And I’m sure you’ll notice this article came from a liberal PBS account so it is not trying to find something to pass blame from a conservative source. It happened and the liberal source admitted it.
