Oh, for the days when Don Rickles could be cast as an Indian.

Thanks for filling that in. In that more innocent era I have no doubt our Indians/Native Americans howled like crazy at the F Troop humor.

I don’t care who you are. That’s funny right there.

He was also the choreographer for The Alan Brady Show on the Dick Van Dyke Show.

There are problems with the second season - I love the Mad Magazine title art work but miss the theme song lyrics. Also, it became a hip show and so they started having guest stars like Vincent Price horning in which diluted the exceptionally funny regulars. But I don’t remember it getting pc at all. But I certainly agree about the color.

I just watched an episode in which the Hekawis actually parody the nightmare sequence of the B’way musical Fiddler on the Roof. I assume most audience members don’t get that reference but what a hoot!

In that more innocent era I have no doubt our Indians/Native Americans howled like crazy at the F Troop humor.

When "Laugh In" was in its prime, Joane Worley came out on stage and said, "Before I go to bed at night, I have a little nip." She beckons to one side and a Japanese midget walks on stage. The audience howled. So did the Japanese Americans. Only the liberals were horrified.

"Agarn: “How did the Hekawis get their name?”

Wild Eagle: “Glad you asked. Many moons ago, tribe leave Massachussetts because Pilgrims ruin neighborhood. Tribe travel west, over stream, over river, over mountain, over mountain, over river, over stream. Then come big day. Tribe fall over cliff. That when Hekawi get name. Medicine man say to my ancestor, ‘I think we lost. Where the heck are we?’”

I cannot say with certainty whether this information you posted is accurate.

On the Colorado river around 1972, deep in the Grand Canyon, camped for the night (post F Troop?), an esteemed scholar of Arizona history, Budge Ruffner, related a similar history but without a doubt he identified the tribe as the "Figarawis".

The chief and his scout had gone scouting ahead but when they returned to their camp the entire tribe had disappeared.

They say that to this day, on the rim of the canyon you can hear the plaintive call of the chief upon his return to the empty camp.

"Where the Figarawis?". Very sad story. ;-)

How is autumn like a Japanese tumbling act?

In both cases, there’s a little nip in the air.

Wow, that is an old TV Guide cover. 15 cents!

The little kid in the photo (Buddy Foster) is now 61 years old. Also, some trivia, he's the brother of Jodie Foster.

I thought that was Johnny Carson's Indian tribe, though I think they spelled it "Fukawis". Gave rise to Johnny's "Hey-o-o-o!" call, IIRC.
