Who the hell is Millie Bobby Brown?
I prefer the 1956 release with Raymond Burr. His footage was added for the American release. The Japanese version doesn’t include it.
It’s one of my all-time favorite movies.

David Strathairn is a quality actor who seems to have accepted typecasting as a slightly - or more than slightly - sinister high-ranking government type.
Whatever advances the new version has, it can’t top the musical score of the original Gojira, by Akira Ifukube; in my classes I teach about him alongside Tiomkin, North, Herrmann, and Williams.
Don’t forget Gamera. Gamera is really neat, Gamera is turtle meat...

And the good guy monsters have no soul. And in Godzilla’s case, no neck.

I grew up with the Raymond Burr version. When I finally saw the original Japanese it was orders of magnitude better. Lot of undertones about the war in the Japanese movie that got edited out.
This is ‘roid version of Godzilla. Call him Barry Bondszilla.

Gamera is a non-Toho property but I am sure you know that. If you introduce Gamera then you get the annoying kids who you wish the bad kaiju would eat.

Did anybody ever see the Godzilla film from Japan that starts off with the Japanese Army teaming up with Godzilla (?) to throw American troops off of a contested island?
The caricature portrayal of Americans was unintentionally hilarious. Open your mouth as wide as you can and use the phrase ‘you guys’ in every sentence. That was pretty much it.

The scene with the radios has an immediate problem.
The receiver appears to be a Hammarlund SP-600, and the closeup of the bandspread dial shows a moving needle, which absolutely never existed on the actual unit.
Fail.
