Hey, why should anyone have to work? Money will just rain down from the heavens, right?

Just when you thought people could not get dumber, here comes another one...

So they will pay them and take away their welfare? Will they then tax them for what they pay them? Wouldn’t it be easier to cut their welfare by 25%, rename welfare to payfare and be done with it?

..."launched a taskforce to see if the program is feasible ..."

I can figure this out in 30 seconds. I'll bet the "task force" takes several months to reach the same conclusion for a 100K contract. Friends of the Mayor maybe? These leftists are losing their minds.

The worst part is that Newark NJ has no money; they will be spending money from others in NJ, or the country, to do this. They resent the investment in other parts of the state, even in neighboring towns, where housing can be built that may be desirable (for access to NYC, not Newark).

They failed to entice the NJ Nets to move there when they were leaving the Meadowlands; instead the Russian owner took them to Brooklyn where people could buy tickets instead of just “play hoops”. Now neighboring Harrison NJ is developing around its train station to NYC; it is the last stop before Newark itself, and Newark’s entitled kleptocrats views this as some kind of theft. Harrison is just a safer Hispanic sh!thole, with less crime - especially violent crime - than Newark; productive people can be lured there with NYC access, while they’d NEVER set foot in Newark. Harrison also built the new stadium for the NY Red Bulls when THEY left the Meadowlands/Giants Stadium, and that is in the same area of the train station development - all within sight of Newark.

The illegals we traffick here are normally to re-populate dying areas like Newark, but they don’t even have any interest in living there; they instead are filling the surrounding areas, keeping their schools full and carwashes, restaurants, etc. staffed.

Weirdly it could save money in the end if they get rid of every welfare program and give one check. It would save on social workers salary, housing vouchers, food stamps, gas vouchers, electricity vouchers, bus vouchers, and the monthly check.

Newark is going to be bailed out if this passes.

The number of social problems will expand to occupy the available workforce of social workers.
