Indeed. On your phone you have the exact model, license plate number and a pic of the driver. Anyone could print a “U” from their laptop and stick it in their window but you have to verify the Uber driver that shows up is the one you called. Unfortunately she did not do this. I have also read the child locks were activated in the back seat so she may have tried to get out and been unable to do so. Really, really sad.
Maybe the guy made eye contact and she was drunk and it was dark. I could see myself doing that actually.

I’m temporarily unable to drive due to medical reasons and uber has been great. Not at all like hitchhiking, more like a taxi but cleaner, cheaper, safer and all around better. I can’t wait to drive again but uber has been nothing but good in my experience.

If Samantha was like most teenage girls, she got in, assumed he knew where he was going (from the app) and immediately got on SnapChat where her REAL life exist. By the time she figured out it was taking too long, he had her in a deserted area (this is S.C., not NYC)where no one could hear those screams. (and he also reportedly had child safety locks in the back so she couldn't get out).
the app also SAYS what make/model/color the car will be before they arrive, but most teen chicks don't know a black Impala from a black Nissan, etc.

One of the first times I used Uber my adult son was there, stepped up to the car I was getting into and made the driver identify himself, etc. I could see myself not doing this until he modeled how to be safe... people are too trusting.

This girl just opened the door and got into the car, she didn’t even ask the guy if he was her Uber driver OR ask him any questions at all WHY would she just assume he was her driver??? I thought the Uber company kept in contact with you by phone telling you of their arrival this is very, very sad!!! Is there any possibility that this was not a mistake and this guy worked for Uber???

Much harder to pretend you are a taxi. You have to invest a lot of time and money to look like a cab and the real cabbies on the road will pretty quickly call you out. They don’t like “gypsy cabs.”
Some regulations are in place for a reason. Garishly painted cabs with giant numbers, taxi signs and medallions are a sign that you are in a real licensed cab. Not a car with a photocopy pasted somewhere.
