I remember when I was five years old creeping on my belly to peek over the edge of a, either 1000 or 3000 foot precipice at the end of the Trail of the Lonesome Pine in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia in the 50s before all the railings and pavement and guards were there. The only indication was a small sign at the bottom of the path that pointed along it.

I have no sympathy for the folks that do this sort of thing. Those who commit suicide by selfie are the least of them.

You have a cold heart and must have led a perfect life up to this point.

In this case age and lack of maturity was a factor. Things people do when they are young scares them to death when they get older. It is sad not only because this young woman lost her life but her death will affect her frinds and family for years to come.

I can sympathize with the fri(e)ds and relatives, not with the incidental suicide.

I now cringe at the thought of some of the risky things I did when I was a lot younger. I'm a lot more cautious now than I was then, but I can understand why people do those things. I'm lucky I survived my own foolishness.

Not true; environmental science majors end up with nice high paying jobs in CA, where they are hired by builders to give the “all clear.”
