None of those highlights were against FSU , Clemson . Only top squads were Va Tech and N’western. Army and Temple are lower level FBS squads. This isn’t always a forecaster, i.e. Phil Simms and Morehead State, but I would feel better seeing his work against highrr quality opposition.

It’s always a crap shoot.

I mean who did Tony Romo play against in college?

“blue collar”
“throwback”
“carries....lunchpail to work everyday.”

Funny you should use those terms. That was just how the 1986 Giants were described on their way to their first Superbowl appearance...and victory. };^)

So stupid. They need to build a great defense this year, then, when they suck with Manning, have a low draft pick next year and get Tua. Or in 2 years, after continuing to suck with Eli, get Trevor. Then, with a great Defense in place, and a great QB, they have what’s needed for 10 years of success.

As a Lions fan, I would have loved to have lost four Super Bowls, at least we would have gotten there.

Many Niners fans weren’t thrilled when they drafted Joe Montana. But Walsh clearly saw something there that wasn’t in the other QBs.

Perhaps the Giants saw something there as well with Jones.

His name was Phil Simms.

Joe Montana was still available.

I remember another QB from a more obscure school whose name was booed when the Giants picked him. They were roasted all over New York for this horrible pick. Who would waste a first-round pick on this guy? Who is this guy anyway? His name was Phil Simms

Before the 1979 NFL Draft, new San Francisco 49ers head coach Bill Walsh flew to Morehead State with assistant coach Sam Wyche to work out Simms.[3] Walsh was so impressed that he planned to draft Simms in the third round, preferring him over the quarterback they ultimately took, Joe Montana of Notre Dame.[4] But the New York Giants decided to make Simms their first round pick (seventh overall) to the surprise of many.[5] As Simms acknowledged, "most people have never heard of me."[5] When Simms's name was announced by Commissioner Pete Rozelle in front of the audience at the draft in New York, his selection was booed loudly by the Giants fans in attendance.[6][7] (He was the second quarterback taken; Jack Thompson of Washington State went to Cincinnati with the third overall pick.) Simms was not happy being a Giant either, "All I was thinking was which teams I would rather play for—the Green Bay Packers, the Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego, San Francisco..."[8] Nonetheless, he became popular with his teammates who jokingly dubbed him "Prince Valiant" in his rookie training camp.[9]

I agree, Jones was a reach at that point. They still could have had him or an equal player later.

The four lost super bowls is what drove me away from sports in general. I was a LOYAL Bills fan and was super stoked watching them get better and better. And then...

Just like Syracuse Orangemen Basketball...couldn’t get it done in the big game. Had to bring in Carmelo Antony who is a (barely) functional illiterate (I know people who tried to tutor him, and even with their help he was going to lose his eligibility for grades). And IMHO the (because LeBron James was ineligible for playing in a summer tournament) that was a questionable title. Boeheim brought in a dumb as a post “ringer” to win...felt wrong then, and it still does. The kid could play ball, but little else.

That has turned me off of sports. The only sport I am interested in now is the one my kid is actually playing in.

He was surprisingly fleet-footed for his size.

IIRC once he stopped playing, he ballooned up to like 500 pounds.
