Pat: Did ‘ya hear about Sean at the brewery?
Mike: No, what happened?
Pat: Fell into a vat of beer; took ‘im 8 hours to die.
Mike: Why so long?
Pat: Well, he got out twice to go to the ‘loo.
Next to a certain religious group, I don’t trust Irish people that don’t drink.
A neighbor, whose parents are from Ireland, has gone back many times over the years to visit family.
He told me last summer’s trip was his last. Not because he is, like me age 68, but because “Ireland is not Ireland any more”.
I asked him what he meant. “When you go into an Irish pub now, especially in the cities, it is operated by non-Irish and that quaint Irish charm is not there any more”.
Read that non-Irish as: Muslims “migrants”.
One note. My neighbor is VERY liberal and I was stunned to hear him say what he said.
My KDrama favorite is when the surgeons and medical team go out drinking and get s**t-faced drunk the night before they have to do some critical heart or brain surgery.
I suspect that story applies to Ireland, France, England, Germany, and every other European country.
Sad.
Sorry, but I’m going to call BS on that one. I’ve been to Irish pubs all over Europe — and in Ireland. Every time I go to Europe, I seek them out. I’ve never seen a Muslim even IN one, much less working behind the counter.
I sat down next to a guy at a bar in Paris a couple of years ago. When I ordered a beer he heard my accent and asked me where I was from, I said the U.S. He was from Iran and had a beer in his hand along with two empty glasses sitting on the bar in front of him. He was a pretty nice fellow so we sat there and talked for a bit. After a bit I said to him “so what about the islamic prohibition on drinking?”. He shrugged and said, “the Catholics say they don’t have sex before marriage, muslims say they don’t drink” with a grin on his face. He then said that despite what the Iran government puts out they have all the same problems as we do. Drugs, unwed motherhood, etc., they have it too. They just don’t advertise it like we do.
I’ve also drank in bars in Bahrain surrounded by muslims that were plastered. Anybody telling you muslims don’t drink is full of chit, they just go to bigger lengths to hide it.
Saudi businessmen wait for the plane to leave Saudi airspace, and then they proceed to drink all the liquor on the plane.
And when the plane lands, they make a beeline for the Nudie Bar.
Occasionally I see a poster that reads, “God invented whiskey to keep the Irish from ruling the world.” Since the Irish don’t rule the world, it must be true. I’ll have to check the internet to make sure.

We live in a world where men can be women and women can be men, so you can certainly be Irish if you like.
