LONDON (Reuters) - Fighting back tears, Theresa May said on Friday she would quit, setting up a contest that will install a new British prime minister who could pursue a cleaner break with the European Union.May’s departure deepens the Brexit crisis as a new leader, who should be in place by the end of July, is likely to want a more decisive split, raising the chances of a confrontation with the EU and potentially a snap parliamentary election. Her voice cracking with emotion, May, who endured crises and humiliation in her failed effort to find a compromise Brexit deal that parliament could ratify, said she would resign on Friday, June 7 with a leadership contest beginning the following week.

Put in a very difficult situation, she handled it as badly as was humanly possible. She sank to the occasion.
Theresa May was a confused ,indecisive leader who was ignorant of Britain’s history and had no distinct vision based on sound values regarding her future. She truly was the sort of leader that you would expect the current British peoples would select. Britain has changed. It has committed cultural suicide and what comes next will not be attractive. Never again should America sacrifice human and material treasure on its behalf.
In 2016, she opposed Brexit. Then the country voted for it. Why make someone leader of the party if they’re out of step with your own voters? It’s a recipe for mediocrity and failure. Despite lip service about carrying out the will of the voters, her heart was never really in the fight for Brexit. Kinda similar to what we saw that with GOP “leaders” like McCain and Romney. The base is angry and moving to the right on a bunch of issues, and they were/are trying to hold the center, please the establishment, maintain the status quo etc.

A previous government of her party decided to have a referendum on whether or not Britain should remain a part of the E.U. That government was shocked by the plebiscite because it narrowly voted to leave the E.U.
However the wording of the proposal was so vague it left completely unclear what the trade relations should be with the continent, and there are about 7 different flavors of option, none of which have anything close to a parliamentary majority.
She kept putting up different options and they all failed. The only unified group is the “hard Brexit” camp, which wants to sever all official relationships, but the economic life of the UK would be badly damaged, something the Brexiteers don’t understand.

This fustercluck is inexcusable... the fact the UK didn’t just plan for a hard brexit from the outset is insanity.
The EU has ZERO interest in letting the UK go without making it as painful as possible... these “negotiations” were doomed from the start.

In a Parliamentary Democracy, you don’t vote for the leader directly, you vote for the Party (via choosing your local MP). The Party with the most MPs elected forms the government; that Party’s leader then becomes the PM.
The Tories have a majority in the UK Parliament, so they’re currently running things. If their leader loses the support of the Tory caucus (i.e., all the MPs), THEY can get rid of that leader and choose a new one, without a national election being called (because they still have their majority in Parliament, nothing’s changed there).
The caucus can get rid of their leader by either asking that person to resign voluntarily, or they can give them the boot by holding a caucus vote. In this case, May chose the first route rather than be kicked out.
MAY she ROT IN HELL for what she failed to do for the UK but promised everyone she WOULD do.
