Thailand's players were in tears at the full-time whistle after suffering the heaviest defeat in World Cup history at the hands of the US.
There were those on social media who criticized the defending champions for celebrating each goal, but Alex Morgan -- who became only the second American to score five in a World Cup match -- told reporters that "every goal counts."
With the US 3-0 up by halftime, the match was effectively over. With the title holders then proceeding to score four goals in the space of six minutes early after the break, it was a rout by the 56th minute.
But Ellis proceeded to make attacking substitutions, bringing on forwards Mallory Pugh, Carli Lloyd and Christen Press, decisions she defended after the match.
The Thai team is supported by a wealthy patron, the general manager Nualphan Lamsam, who is the chief executive of one of the country's largest insurance companies.
Her family's company sponsors Thailand's fledgling women's league, and players on the national team are also employed by her company.

“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”
It's what you do.
Isn’t ANYONE teaching good sportsmanship anymore????
When you are winning by that much you put in your backup players with instructions to take as much time off the clock as possible... And then you thank the losing team for a good game.
You don’t humiliate them.
I’ll be happy to console any of those young Thai girls, however...
How f—king stupid.
Bracket ties are decided in the World Cup by the score differential. Hence why there is no mercy rule. It’s good football to run up the score as high as possible.
On the bright side, I’d like to congratulate America on reaching the Israeli status of “everything you do is wrong.” It’s definitely something we have in common.
Bah! You beat me to it!
Were there actually any women in the US women’s team?
I dunno man.
When I boxed, I didn’t care if I had 3 rounds won out of 4 or 2 out of 3.
If you still had stamina and strength left, I kept a distance but Still wanted to land as many punches as possible.
If you looked depleted to me, I was gonna try and knock your head into tomorrow.
Nothing was won yet, it was good practice for the next fight and Why take a chance?
Nope...long gone with Patriotism, Modesty, Continence, etc...
Every guy had that status with my ex :)
The...uh..."ladies"...on the US got there first after the game.
Why is womens soccer being shoved in our faces?
Here’s the one of the good things sports can do - the team (or athlete) that gets whooped can be inspired to try harder. And the day they avenge a loss, win a championship, etc. - in some ways it’s a greater victory. It means more.
It’s the stuff a participation trophy doesn’t give you.
They acted like pricks.
Then the one who insulted the national anthem
I am disgusted
On of Jim Healy’s favorite clips.
Actually, the play by the Thais was quite good for their level of actual talent and experience. This is like putting a high-level junior college against a top-level Division 1 football team.
However the Trump-haters (yes, everyone on the US team is an SJW freak from the coach on down) have the experience.
I think the real reason all these stories abound, is because the world hates a winner. Especially when it's the USA.
On = One
