Other countries are taking steps to atone for their shameful past treatment of L.G.B.T. people. The United States should too.
The New York Police Department apologized last week to the gay community for the 1969 raid of the Stonewall Inn, the fallout of which is widely credited with spurring the contemporary gay rights movement at home and abroad. Timed to coincide with Stonewall’s 50th anniversary, the statement by Commissioner James P. O’Neill said in part: “The actions taken by the N.Y.P.D. were wrong — plain and simple” and “the actions and the laws were discriminatory and oppressive, and for that, I apologize.” The apology is the culmination of a decades-old struggle by gay activists for recognition of wrongdoing on the part of the police — one that few activists thought could ever become a reality.
With the surprise apology, the United States has taken its most significant leap yet into “gay reparation,” or policies intended to address the legacy of state-sanctioned repression of homosexuals. Although relatively new to the United States, gay reparation has been debated and legislated around the world for close to two decades and is a logical progression in the maturation of the gay rights movement. Having largely secured rights once thought to be virtually unattainable — especially same-sex marriage — gay activists, especially in Western democracies, are turning their attention to addressing the historical legacies of homosexual repression.

The list is long. I am so very, very, very tired of the stupidity and selfishness of those on the left.
Stonewall wasn’t a legit bar. Because the regulations on bottle clubs are so much lower than for bars (little running required and just one point of exit), it was a Bottle Club and it was run by The Mob.
Stonewall had TWO income streams —selling booze and blackmailing closeted gay guys who were problem customers; not paying on time, or just not paying, or repeatedly hitting on guys who weren’t interested in them, or fighting.
Most of them time the guys getting blackmailed got pissed and paid. But sometimes they threw a fit, and Stonewall was one of those times when a yuge fight broke out, not just eye-rolling, scoffing and pulling hair but fists thrown, etc.
Plus the media was mob friendly so they reported on the ruckus in a way that made it seem like the cops had been somehow oppressive.
The Left transformed Stonewall from a tizzy on steroids and injected it with a bunch of made-up righteous outrage to make it into some type of moral cause.
Just like the did with that homo Wyoming meth dealer Matthew Shepard; they turned him into a Christlike figure crucified on a barbwire fence owing to nothing more than intolerance.
It was BS:
Shepard had told two other gay meth dealers that he’d given them AIDS. Before that they did envy his drug pipeline from Chicago —they wanted those. But after his little AIDS outburst they got pissed and went and killed their rival drug dealer.
Shepard was leaning against a post that formed part of a barbed-wire fence, he wasn’t HUNG on it.
How about “repartitions” for victims of insane idiotic liberalism?
