That’s what surprised me. Milk has some carbs to it, Cheese is OK though.

A cup of whole milk is about 150 calories, and 12 grams carb. Is that a deal breaker??

And then there’s ice cream. I could eat a quart of that every day. Ice cream, not the fake stuff. Blech.

What’s wrong (in theory) with trimming oneself back to a skinny size, where even Jenny Craig is saying “Hey! you oughtta dial it back some!” and then eating what you want plus exercise? I know everybody seems to put the pounds back on after weight loss, leading to the mistaken notion of a body “set point”.

Just pass the word. I was 320. I just weighed in. I’m now 232. I eat better food. I’m not hungry. It’s science.

What is criminal is that ADM and the USG peddaled the 10-12 servings of carbs a day in the food pyramid for years and everybody in that circle knew about this stuff.

Then they made everyone feel bad about doing what they were told. I had surgery to install a bariatric device. I didn’t need that either.

They were trying to kill us slowly to make a buck. I friggin’ hate that.

OK … if “keto” is bad, what does your 5000-word paper say is good?

You both have little clue. That’s to be expected.

I’ve stated more than I cared and it was never my intention to defend my position. I can’t elaborate further for reasons I’m not going into here.

Good luck with the keto thing. And the next ‘diet’...and the next ‘diet’...and if you’re lucky you & the other keto cheerleaders here don’t get a dreaded diagnosis in the next few years. I hope that’s true.

Disengaging...

lol because you can’t defend your position. That’s cool. I’ll hedge my bets against a “dreaded diagnosis” while I revel in having reversed T2D.

I pushed break-fast forward to 9 PM because it seems like if I eat at 6PM and don’t turn in early my body thinks “lunch” is around midnite.

So about 20 hours from last meal. What’s weird is not all that hungry most of today, a little bit in the morning and noon, manageable. By evening hardly at all.

“I only get hungry when I eat”? LOL

Anyway, today 4 eggs on 2 slices buttered toast, slice of ham, 4 oz Monterey jack cheese, some potato rounds, and smothered in about a cup of milk gravy from yesterday, and the (sob!) last Throwback Dew.

Should be about 1,410 calories, containing about 106 grams of carbs. So (roughly) 400 calories from carbohydrate.

That’s well below “45% to 65%” of calorie intake from carbs, it’s about 30%

and 1400 cals is a pretty big meal, it feels like. Maybe better to split into 2 smaller meals through a longer window?

You’re a Berg follower, so I’m confused.

Either you’re convinced it’s good or you have doubts.

Eric Berg: “The truth is, you need to get healthy to lose weight.”

Bullshit. He’s preaching the same crap as everyone else, preying on people’s vanity and making money at the same time with no liability for their failure or complications.

Weight gain is a symptom. If caloric restriction alone was the cure for good health, everyone would be handed a nutrition chart by their doctor with strict calorie guidelines.

If carb restriction was the cure for good health, EVERYONE would be ditching carbs and keto would be Trump’s next big announcement for Federal Nutritional Guidelines.

It’s just a bit more complicated than that.

True story: When I was doing my own research & outreach, I tried to help a group who were suffering from variations of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s disease). One woman was an outlier, desperately seeking a solution to her symptoms which I just got done telling her I’d cured for myself over the course of 2 years (the key part of the process taking a year itself). Still, she interrupted as I was describing the complicated process (which must be customized for each person) and she began banging on the table yelling in my face, “WHAT DID YOU DO???!!!”

I’ll close with a bit of wisdom: Focusing on one or two symptoms is a fool’s errand and fails to resolve systemic health. The body knows what to do to heal itself. The problem is the tissue between the ears. I am a diagnostics expert who turned my skills to fix my health, learning that my body did all the work for me. All I had to do was get out of the way and, in my personal case, kick a parasitic infection as well. >60 symptoms - including those of the thyroid, nutrient deficiency and seasonal allergies - are all gone. But my revelations pertaining to the true cause of health matters is secret, as they pertain directly to treatment and prevention.

When I publish some here may make the connection to who I am; I may choose to remain as I am here. But the fact is that unless someone publishes before me, my revelations on the “Why?” will turn medicine, health/wellness and millions of snake-oil hawkers on their heads, including major corporations. In the process people will know why they’ve become dependent upon their doctor. Many here will be plenty pissed off, along with millions of others.

The reason for my secrecy is as much about protecting my intellectual property as keeping a target off my back. 250,000 words, thousands of hours of research and what at last count numbered over 1500 references unfortunately matter little to those who look for letters after a name and/or youtube videos (which I chose not to do for reasons already addressed).

The young will always be know-it-alls, but the rest of us don’t need to suffer needlessly as we age, let alone permit our children to needlessly become victims. 9 out of 10 people over 40 I know suffer from a condition which either causes pain, health complications, requires medication or are “diagnosed”. Over half of families I know have children who suffer from some malady. Why?

If I were still suffering from all of those 60+ symptoms, I’d sure like to see statistics for people getting healthy on a wholesale basis before I adopted keto, but that’s based upon my prior experience with the diets which preceded my recovery, Atkins included. Yet absolutely EVERYONE I know who have tried keto quietly abandoned it for a multitude of reasons. And, by the way, my wife (who won’t listen to anything I say or read anything I write) actually gained weight on keto.

I know why; does Mr. Berg? And my wife still won’t listen. -sigh-

Best of luck to everyone, but I long ago abandoned the idea that I can help change people individually. Everything of my core concepts are now to serve professionals - coaches, nutritionists, NDs, whatever - to help guide their changes.

There is very good reason for my choice as noted, evidenced in this thread.

I close with a final article which initially references the half-million/worldwide study cited prior, but within it gives a number of clues. Still, it also fails to outline nearly a half dozen other factors which a person must consider or all efforts are potentially in vain.

The explanation is complicated, the solution? Easy. The problem? Not the transition; the problem lies in the mirror...between the ears.

I know: I’ve been there and I’m just trying to help prevent others from making foolish, harmful decisions on the basis of marketing materials, biased research and confirmation bias.

https://www.businessinsider.com/is-the-keto-diet-healthy-studies-suggest-carbs-are-linked-to-long-life-2018-9

ps...the direct answer to your question is on the cover of my first volume in Italian and spelled out in 3 words, translated in English into 2 words. Think hard about why I would not embrace a single ‘diet’ out there or brand my own following my own enlightenment and health recovery...

So you reversed T2D. Kudos. The treatment worked as described by others. Though it’s a bit odd that you failed to mention that to anyone else in ALL CAPS to trumpet keto to everyone and chose to be argumentative throughout the thread. I hope you quit keto afterwards, but of course you didn’t (2000 days).

I explain why I won’t elaborate in my prior comment. Read it, or don’t.

Didn’t catch the title of your book. Was it “I Reversed My T2D”???

I hope you keep your health. Sarcasm aside, I mean that sincerely. But keto is not panacea and brings with it many dangers for those adopting it for the wrong reasons and longer than a treatment period. I hope you don’t end up victimizing yourself.

Ironically, I’m the one LOL: I outline your response in a chapter. Literally. Question: If keto is so fabulous, why are you expending all of your time denigrating my critique and not trumpeting your success from the highest mountain? I looked: I saw no vanity post about your successes. No articles at all, in fact, for 9 years. Curious on both points.

Btw, here’s a list of most of my former symptoms (in no particular order, scrambled and rewritten with purpose):

1. Type II Diabetes (ironic, isn’t it?)
2. arthritic pain in knees & fingers
3. lifetime of cystic acne
4. chronic fatigue
5. carpal tunnel
6. lightheadedness
7. fatigue after eating
8. constipation
9. migraines
10. persistent feeling of cold
11. snoring

13. body itchiness
14. slow healing
15. chronic nosebleeds
16. balance issues
17. irritability and shotgun anger outbursts
18. gut bloating
19. acid reflux
20. insomnia
21. chronic back & neck pain
22. crippling tendonitis & shin splints
23. eye coordination (teaming) problems
24. double vision
25. night blindness
26. puffy eyes
27. nearsightedness
28. chronic stress, anxiety & depression
29. difficulty urinating
30. reduced libido
31. chronic food cravings
32. bio-warfare-grade flatulence
33. near-constant eye weeping/tearing

43. sinusitis, post-nasal drip
44. elevated cholesterol (for what that’s worth)
45. bruise easily
46. brittle nails
47. circulatory problems, numbness
48. nail spots & streaks
49. chronic dry skin on hands
50. cracked, dry skin on elbows & feet
51. chronic athlete’s foot
52. coarse dry hair
53. slowed metabolism
54. depression
55. anxiety
56. difficulty GAINING weight (in my youth)
57. brain fog
58. memory problems
59. testicular swelling & pain
60. sensitive teeth
61. rib head inflammation/pain
62. 50 pounds of nothing but fat

The overwhelming majority of this list was collated over a yearlong period as I realized how much malaise I’d rationalized over the course of my adult life. That list was, at one time, my ‘normal’.

No more. And no ‘diet’ brought about the changes. My body healed itself.

Done here...this is final.

I have lost sixty pounds on the Keto diet. The primary driver of weight loss was satiety, as on the Standard American Diet I was hungry all day and had terrible issues with portion control.

Honestly, going by your diet description, you don’t have a satiety problem. You have a nutrition problem. Stop bringing processed sugar into the house. Add more berries to your diet, unsweetened whole dairy, even kombucha if your budget allows. Experiment with the nine trillion flavors of seltzer water out there, now

When you want an ice cream, go to an ice cream parlor and get the smallest size. When you want a baguette, go to a good bakery.

Check out the produce aisle. You’ll find a dozen different varieties of bagged salad, complete with dressing and toppings. Find varieties you like and eat a a bag a day. Grab a bag of coleslaw while you’re there. Fry it up with all that bacon fat you’ve been saving. Get a box of Goya Salad and Vegetable Seasoning and sprinkle it on cauliflower, broccoli, or brussel sprouts before oven roasting.

Hey, thanks for the reply! I can’t even pronounce some of those words. I can see I have more to think about, more to study. I usually do pretty well with motivation when I get up to speed on something. For a long time I was happy that my body metabolism was such that I could “eat whatever I want”. It took a while to tip the scales, it will take a while to bring things back where they need to be.

LOL. Case study, you are. I'm amending my chapter. Thank you. Ignoring contraindicative evidence is as unscientific as climate alarmists' hysterical defense of AGW. Your experience may very well make you an outlier, but disregarding that you may be an outlier is also unscientific. Furthermore, if you believe that thousands of hours of research are "just a story", this is you:

There are no essential carbohydrates my dude, only essential lipids and amino acids. That is just basic science.
