I don’t buy this study..

My experience on very low carb, is that mental acuity is dulled a bit.. Perhaps in older/octogenarians this is different... but definitely not my experience.

:: keeping on or below approximately 20 carbs per day ::

“Carbs” is not a proper unit of measure.
20 pounds of carbs?

Apparently you’ve never read the back label on packaged or canned foods? Carbohydrates count is listed by number of carbs. What else can I say, other than it has nothing to do with pounds.

"...to make his theory equal to the word of god in the medical community, and crushed the reputation of anyone who even tried to study alternative ideas. For 40 years doctors were taught that if people ate fat, it was a death sentence and they, like sheep, have just gone along..."

Sounds very similar to the "global warming" scam doesn't it? Anybody disagreeing with the agenda is shouted down and crushed. There are meteorologists who have had their careers destroyed simply because they refuted it (and had evidence to do so). Now most meterologists just keep their mouths shut, like good little sheep.

With regard to nutrition, I don't think there will ever be much traction on getting the medical community to admit they were wrong about high fat diets and that they have been killing us with this high-carb food pyramid nonsense. For that would open the door to trillions of dollars in malpractice claims.

There is already plenty of data...to those who are willing to see it.

It is NOT a lifestyle.

It’s generally understood that the “units” of carbs is “grams”.

Global-Warming/Climate-Change and the Food Pyramid are two of the three massive frauds that are being perpetrated on modern Western society.

The third is “Homosexuality is fabulous!”.

I've had similar success over the years with 50 carbs or less per day. Never did do the 20 carb two-week "induction phase" as I thought that too extreme.

Since 2003, I have found that as soon as I move away from that 50 carb (or less) a day rule, the weight quickly comes back on.

Why do I keep slipping back? In order for this to work for me, I've learned that I really need to log what I eat, day after day without fail. Everything that I eat (or drink) gets logged. I use the free version of MyFitnessPal for this - as it does a good job and has pretty much ever food already in the database.

When counting carbs, it's also important to keep track of fiber. For example, I wasn't getting enough fruits and vegetables in the early years because it never took long to get over 50 carbs if you are measuring strictly carbs. But remember, fiber subtracts from carbs! So this allows you a lot more fruits and vegetables.

For example, a medium avocado has 13 carbs. But ten of those are fiber - so only 3 net carbs in an avocado! Since tracking this way, I've been able to add a lot more healthy foods and still stay under the 50 carb goal.

Finally, I sometimes think about Ronald Reagan and his love for jellybeans. Probably one of the worst foods you can eat, all those empty sugar calories. You have to wonder if he would ever have come down with Alzheimers had he restricted his carbs (especially sweets).

Ancel Keyes’ method was similar to that of the global warming / climate change crowd for sure. For example he was so well known that if someone were to publish research that went against his own the scientific journals would give him advance notice and he’d request, and get, permission to write an introduction to someone else s work that explains that it’s wrong, dangerous, and they are bad scientists, if you still want to read junk science you may now enjoy their paper. Then he’d reach out to those funding the research and get them blackballed. A guy who wrote a paper in the 70s saying sugar was bad and maybe the root cause of lots of disease got Keye’s (or maybe Keye’s handpicked successor who wielded similar power because of his long association with Keyes) upset in this way and he became unemployable because nobody after that would fund any of his research. He had to drop nutrition work altogether. Many other examples of vindictive behavior to stifle science for decades. Read the well researched book “Big Fat Surprise” for more details.

Apparently you are a smarmy elitist who doesn’t realize he is speaking with a classically trained analytical laboratory chemist that would lose his job if he just thought his boss or clients simply “knew” what the results were measured in.

Why is FR so filled with snobby assh*les...measured in SAU; tandard a-hole units.

“Apparently you are a smarmy elitist who doesn’t realize he is speaking with a classically trained analytical laboratory chemist.”

Why don’t you take your elitist sarcasm to the “Low-Carb” industry (wherein there may be a few classically trained analytical laboratory chemists also)?

And why do you have the predetermined idea that I am a male?

Sam, we’re on the same page! I am a small woman and for me, the 20-carb level got me going. I paid close attention to protein and fat levels also to fuel my body.

Now that I’m at goal weight I eat around 50 carbs per day. And, yes, thank God for fiber offsets to carbs!

Keto on!

There are a lot of keto recipes on the interwebs. Dietdoctor.com is a good place to start if you’re interested in the diet. LOTS of info there even on the ‘free’ part of the site. My family adores the banana waffles.

I see so I can’t return smarmy elitism in response to your smarmy eltism. All speech for you and none for me, eh?

Other than smarmy gender virtue signaling, do you hypocrite like this often?
