I’ve always thought that using a VPN was tantamount to screaming I AM DOING SOMETHING I DON’T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW ABOUT!!!
Red flagging yourself.
*Had to go look up “TOR”.
Hmmm.
Even with Windows 10 screaming “DANGER! DANGER!” every time I click harmless links.
God, what a cyber drama queen.
[it recently informed me that the Photo Elements 2019 I just installed, from Best Buy was a malware/virus]
Microsoft Updates to our terms of use
These terms (Terms) cover the use of those Microsoft consumer products, websites, and services listed here (the Services) [such as Bing.com; MSN.com; Skype; Windows Movie Maker; Cortana; Default Homepage and New Tab Page on Microsoft Edge; Microsoft account; OneDrive.com]. You accept these Terms by creating a Microsoft account, through your use of the Services, or by continuing to use the Services after being notified of a change to these Terms....
3. Code of Conduct. By agreeing to these Terms, youre agreeing that, when using the Services, you will follow these rules: Dont publicly display or use the Services to share [among other things] offensive language, graphic violence.. Dont engage in activity that is harmful to you, the Services or others (e.g....communicating hate speech, or advocating violence against others)..Dont help others break these rules.... b. Enforcement. If you violate these Terms, we may..block delivery of a communication (like email..) or we may remove or refuse to publish Your Content for any reason. We may change these Terms at any time, and well tell you when we do. Using the Services after the changes become effective means you agree to the new terms.
What constitutes "offensive language" for liberals in general and (esp. in the alter-native societies of most universities) is not profanity, but hearing Biblical principles and precepts and political opinions which reflect them, and which are considered "hate speech." As for "graphic violence" or "advocating violence," that could include some wars which show the horrors of it, and calls to engage in a just war.
By these broad terms that are subjectively defined then MS not only enables users who engage in whatever MS has in mind to exempt themselves as guilty of such, but it enables MS to censor conservative speech when it subjectively defines that they are guilty of whatever MS has in mind. Which, being overall liberal, means becoming more like Facebook.
As a 35 year IT professional, I can tell you unequivocally, in 2019 information security and privacy are both illusions. We know about the big, major breaches of information. How many lesser breaches occur that aren’t reported or are never discovered? Many more than we know about I can tell you.
Alexa? SIRI? Google Home? These services are nothing short or warrantless search and seizure.
Good reading. Chris is a so called “ethical hacker.” A rainbow Unicorn if you will- https://twitter.com/VickerySec
So if you enter your email address are you then automatically pwned?
Tor relies on volunteers to supply Tor nodes.
With NSA's budget, wanna guess what percent of the Tor "volunteer supplied" nodes are really government-owned?
When a relative of mine who worked in cyber security for the government told me about a device they had that can read and record the contents of a nearby computer using just the electromagnetic emanations of the device, I knew we were screwed.
I use a VPN primarily for banking and investing (buying or selling stocks). I travel overseas frequently and a VPN adds a layer of encryption in addition to hiding my IP address.
No. It’s a guy from Microsoft who is tracking data breaches and assembled the website to help people know.
Actually, a VPN exposes your IP address. There is no way you can connect without an IP address.
I believe it exposes the IP address assigned by the VPN. Your home IP address, assigned by your ISP is not exposed once your VPN connection is achieved.

Same here. I knew I couldn’t do anything regarding the bank website I use, my 401K and our Vanguard online account. All the security measures I could do was on my end. I also hide behind an SPI firewall, an outgoing software firewall, and a keystroke scrambler.
Still, I know I’m not safe. I’m just trying the best I know how to keep thieves out of our finances. Our home has 3 computers that have Internet access and my computer is the only one that accesses our finances.
Um, no. That’s not how the Internet works. Your IP must be known in order to route data to you. The VPN server uses your IP address to get the data to you.
There is no such thing as a keystroke scrambler. There may be something that let’s you enter one key and map it to another, but the ONLY thing that could possibly defeat is someone observing your typing.
Can you provide a link to a site I can go to that exposes an IP address other than the one assigned by a VPN service?
Just search the internet and stay away from people who have no idea what they are talking about. This is networking 101.
Start with the fact that VPN systems do not provide your IP address.
