‘This ain’t your mother’s marijuana,’ surgeon general says

Federal health officials issued a national warning Thursday against marijuana use by adolescents and pregnant women, as more states legalize the increasingly potent drug for medicinal and recreational use.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Surgeon General Jerome Adams made the announcement, with Azar calling marijuana “a dangerous drug.” Officials said President Donald Trump has donated $100,000 — one-quarter of his annual government salary — toward a digital campaign to raise awareness of the risks. Trump has forgone his official salary since taking office.

The warning comes as legal marijuana has grown into a $10-billion industry in the U.S. with nearly two-thirds of states legalizing it, mainly for medical uses. An increasing number of states and localities are also allowing personal, recreational use. […]

Adams said science shows that marijuana is harmful to the developing brains of teenagers and to the human fetus. The drug has also gotten stronger, with a three-fold increase in the concentration of the active ingredient THC in cultivated plants over the last 20 years.

“This ain’t your mother’s marijuana,” Adams said. […]

Federal officials say they fear the trend toward legalization may make it more enticing for teenagers to try marijuana. It’s a commonly used drug among youths, they said, along with alcohol and e-cigarettes. No states allow legal marijuana use by teens. …

now we'll get the long, never ending war on weed....because the govt knew weed legalization was a very bad thing...

I just hope the weeders get taxed to oblivion to pay for their treatment in the future..or maybe they'll just add extra fees onto marriage licenses because we all know marriage licences seem to fund all the vices.

How’s that “War on Drugs” going? About as well as the “War on Poverty” and the “War on Terror”.

They are all Fedzilla moneymakers. Cash cows for the oligarchy.

BS. They had supremely stoney bud and even imported hash way back in the day, but it was expensive. Now it’s ubiquitous.

That’s what I’ve heard as well. I do have a question, though. Back in the day we used to take the seeds out of our lids and plant them. If you did that today, would it be as potent, or is it something they do after it is planted that gives it that extra kick?

I heard this same story in the 1980s comparing contemporary weed to weed from the 1960s.

Most of is here are sceptical of global warming even though some scientists say it’s real. Some scientist say “marijuana bad” and we all take their findings as gospel.

It was the year we graduated HS that $10 lids began to be replaced with $40 Colombian gold, Panama red, Jamaican etc that packed a potent kick enough to be well worth the price increase.

That June in a Good Times Van a group of school chums headed for Colorado for a week.

Talk about a Rocky Mountain High.

I started smoking Mexican ditch weed when I was 16. Smoke two joints and it felt like you had a couple of beers. My friends and I would go out and play in the woods and have a good time. By the time I was 26 it had been hybridized and the potency was overwhelming. 2-3 puffs and I’d be catatonic. That was NOT fun. I quit and haven’t touched it since. I have friends who have continued to smoke it (I’m almost 68 now) and they are complete burn-outs. People who claim it is harmless are FOS.

Idiots. The ‘War on Drugs’ is nothing but a war on the American people for the creation of a black market for elite fun and profit. The well-connected in America make money by putting American in prison while they skim profits from cartels via payoffs.

All things must end and when this farce ends there will probably be extreme violence.

I recently met a professional grower of marijuana. I really learned a lot about it.

Its something of a competitive arms race in the industry to breed varieties that yield much higher CBD and THC content.

He said the difference over the decades is comparable to the power of your first Atari Computer in 1980, vs. your MacBook today.

OF COURSE IT ISN'T! Ditch weed isn't indica (for example) or quality hydroponically grown weed.
Who is going to spend their money buying ditch weed these days when they can buy superior weed instead???
Growers know this so they grow and sell better varieties because dirt weed doesn't sell at all.

Analogy - Good wine or Ripple?

Thank god, who wants to smoke 5% THC weed?

All of you anti-legalization people are on the wrong side of history on this one. It’s already happening. Nothing can be done to stop it.

Go choose another prohibition hill to die on.

Ummm... at least 40% of all US students have tried marijuana. There's not that many more who would try it that haven't already.

Correct, there were no halcyon days. You get what you pay for.

However in the mid 70s Mexican was prominent in the South and do you remember the Paraquat spraying days? Some pretty anemic looking stuff.

Legalization will NOT entice teenagers to try pot. Straw man argument. It's easier for high school kids to get pot than anyone else.

The more potent it is, the less you need to get high. Too many people are scaremongers and know nothing about pot (but are OK with beer and alcohol!).
