And you're right in saying that's the best he'll do without further pressure from either his employers or the legal system. Given the megaphone that his network provides, this passes my bar for slander, even of a public figure.
The accusation itself fails common sense on its face.
First, Trump has plenty of assets which could be pledged as collateral. Collateral is far more valuable to bank than a guarantee.
Second, how would a German bank go about collecting on a guarantee by a Russian oligarch?
Third, large real estate loans (I assume the borrowing would be real property related) are almost always done on a non-recourse basis. Non-recourse means that the lender can only collect from the income generated by the property (rents or sale) and that the owners are not personally liable.

Co-signers are usually for auto loans and small personal loans, usually to people with no credit or bad credit.
