Okay, it seems like we agreed now:)
I agree.
And clearly you were not speaking of individuals, and certainly not of freedom lovers like Burckhardt and De Tocqueville, the kind from which we derive our American greatness.
Yeah, me too. Not good to be a despot. Still, Socratic doubt doesn't encourage. Let's just say this place called Britain is a wonderful paradise for national socialism. And we've lost our first love, since FDR if not earlier.
Darwinism paints with a broad brush. Individuals will always rise above the herd. Whether the herd notices and is improved by them is another question altogether.
We have had Presidents who exceeded their Constitutional authority and would have loved to have been crowned if they thought they could get away with it.
The holy Roman empire was primarily Germany and France. It never included Scandinavian countries or the British isles or Iberia or slavic states bar Czechia
Primarily Germany and central Europe, France fell out of that fairly quickly.
It was the inheritance of Rome and did include England and Spain in so they were Catholic at one time. Rome pretty well went everywhere, though they may not of stayed.
The Holy Roman empire dates from the 9th century, 400+ years after the western Roman empire fell.
The Roman empire continued until 1453
Wilson, FDR, some earlier ones?
Your thinking about the Byzantine Empire continuing well into the centuries. They initially were part of the Roman Empire that split when the empire was divided into two parts: Rome and Constantinople. They especially broke ties from Rome when they continued to be Orthodox and Rome became Roman Catholic in 1054.
Diocletian split the Empire. He ruled from Dalmatia - Split.
Constantinople came later During the reign of Constantine. In Diocletian’s time is was a sleepy city called Byzantium.

Your view is interesting in that the people who had the fortitude to emigrate to North America were the ones who did not inherit anything and were destined to be day laborers or military men.
Hitler claimed that those folks were the lower class peons and were not missed. Humorous it seems, since many children and grandchildren of 19th century immigrants of all ethnic groups were educated and became doctors, lawyers, professors, etc.
The name Byzantine empire is an economy dating only to the 19th century.
They called themselves and were called by their contemporaries as Romans
And Italy had Rome to deal with - might have turned out different if it didn’t.
Not really. France is rather infamous for having several general strikes by people who want to cause a ruckus like during May 1968, and also being extremely socialist in Western Europe (fitting, since France was essentially responsible for Communism’s creation as even Karl Marx admitted). It’s not among the top at all. I’d even argue that the Weimar Republic was closer to being on the top than France is currently (and I don’t think the Weimar Republic is even remotely high up as it is).
Probably better off if Europe retained its monarchy. Democracy is certainly worse (just look at France under Robespierre, that was a nightmare.). And either way, America was never meant to be a democracy, anyway.
We had a remarkable event just last month when the Queen stepped in and gave Boris a helping hand. Was it democratic? The mob wants to be rid of the monarchy and will have a referendum as soon as the Queen passes.
