Population growth lowers per-capita GDP for the period when children are too young to contribute anything to the GDP.

Why do you think governments in wealthy countries are hell-bent on promoting homosexuality? It's because childless couples help inflate the per-capita GDP.

Trade war with China = $180B or $180/$2200 = < 1% of the USA gdp. A big nothing burger hyped up by the "business" community of liars.

U.S. goods and services trade with China totaled an estimated $737.1 billion in 2018. Exports were $179.3 billion; imports were $557.9 billion. The U.S. goods and services trade deficit with China was $378.6 billion in 2018.

You’re obviously remembering the days before Baby Boomers began to retire.

My 401k has grown more under 3 years of Trump than under 16 years of Bush and Obama combined.....

In 1970 our GDP was about $5 trillion.

In 2018 it was $18.6 trillion.

So our population has increased just over 50%, while our GDP has more than tripled. So clearly the per capita GDP has increased substantially in that time.

Is this some kind of a mystery to you, or what?

The only reason we can’t achieve 5% growth is that
Democrats continue to exist.

Who’s we, Kimosabe?

In 1970 our GDP was about $5 trillion.

When I adjust GDP for inflation I get $7 Trillion not $5 Trillion.

Wages are flat because of economic globalism and labor arbitrage.

“Do you think the paltry 2% GDP growth is normal? Were you born yesterday?”

No, 64-1/2 years ago. But what did Moore say that was untrue. Red herring fail...

“The disloyalty is obvious.”

Sez who?

“Nothing wrong with telling the truth,”

Whew, glad to hear that.

But the overwhelming tenor on FR is that DJT is a divine figure *even while* most supporters here acknowledge that he is a bullsh!tter. Why else do folks on our side say he “is to be taken seriously, not literally.” I rejoice when he does useful things, but he does himself no favors when he slings BS like a New York grifter. Of course he has my vote in comparison to the open Maoists on the other side, but that does not change the reality that he misses a lot of opportunities because he spews a lot of horse manure.

Moore didn't say anything to support his supposition. I, on the other hand, have a lot of evidence that 4-5% GDP growth is possible and has happened before. Game-set-match.

If you don’t like it here I think there are other parks you can go play in.

We’d be at 4+% if we didn’t have a fairly severe global slowdown. All in all, I’d rather aim high than lead from behind

A nation’s GDP grows only two ways: Population growth and productivity growth. Our population growth is slow, and with massive numbers of new retiree every month we simply don’t have the capacity to improve our productivity very much. This has nothing to do with politics and very little to do with economic policies.

Have you read "Accidental Superpower" by Peter Ziehan? That book pretty much confirms what you said above with real data.

The good news is that the U.S. is better positioned than any other nation to ride out the coming storm. Also, this book was written before the Trump presidency and if anything, Trump's policies will further smooth out the impact on Americans.

That book was recommended by LS and I felt much more optimistic for our future after having read it.

No thanks, I’ll stay here as an advocate for conservatism and critical thinking.

Look at his newer book, “The Absent Superpower.” US is in awesome shape, China and Russia in bad shape.
