Skip to comments. The Berkeley hills go dark and residents step up to help one another (liberal paradise alert)

All was quiet at dawn in the north Berkeley Hills. A few people were out in the early morning darkness, walking dogs, jogging, waiting for the bus. The contrast was stark looking down to the flats where power had not been lost and the lights were still on.
A longtime resident on Creston Road, who said he was retired from the tech industry and didnt want to give his name, was out with a flashlight in case people needed help. We have elderly people up here, he said. I just wanted to make sure no one was panicking.
Like several others interviewed Thursday morning, he said he was frustrated at PG&E, and especially the lack of consistent and coordinated communication among agencies, including the city. The predicted time of the outage kept changing Wednesday and then from 2:30 p.m. there was nothing; nothing, he said.
Power started to go out around Berkeley around 11 p.m. PG&Es outage map shows about 3,500 homes and businesses without power, which means many thousand more than that dont have working electricity.
PG&E cut the power off to millions in the state as a preventative measure, known as a Public Safety Power Shutoff. High winds were forecast for the East Bay hills and in parts of Northern California and the utility wanted to prevent trees and branches from falling on power lines and sparking fires. PG&E has admitted its equipment caused many of the states recent fires, including the deadly 2018 Camp Fire, which killed 85 people.
But in Berkeley and the inner East Bay at least, the high winds never materialized. (snip)
Its not windy at all here, said David Austern, who lives in the Berkeley hills.

Move or die freezing in the dark.
I luv it when people who vote for socialism get smacked in the face with socialism.
There was a huge fire that killed 25 people in that area circa 1991. Fire was cause then by an illegal camping fire. I forget how many residences were destroyed but it was many.
Welcome to Venezuela . . .
Berkeley Hills is where the rich people live.
The reporter was probably terrified to wander around the flat-lands at night. ;-)
Take a good look at your future when you want to end all use of fossil fuels, hippies.
They should leave the power off to save the planet.
Their electric cars out of power too especially if they bought one of Elon Musks
And their solar panels don’t work since they’re tied into the power grid.
Yes, I heard about that. I heard some commentators saying these power cut offs should give a jump start to people wanting to get solar. But then, considering that solar panels don’t work unless tied to the grid, they are back to square one on that.
If this jump starts anything, it might jump start people getting generators of their own. But then don’t those generators run off “evil” fossil fuels?
What’s a good environmentally aware person to do????
“...Fire was cause then by an illegal camping fire.”
“We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.” (From Rudyard Kipling, “The Gods of the Copybook Headings”)
This is what happens when a society follows the gods of the marketplace (socialism, relativism) instead of the gods of the copybook headings (truth, objectivity, freedom).
Read the whole poem for yourselves!
I recall reading Charleston Heston autobio. Mention during the riots all his liberal friends were asking to borrow some of his firearms. He told them that would be illegal, and besides they were not trained in firearm safety.
“Here we stand
Like an Adam and Eve
Two fools in love
So beautiful and strong
The birds in the tress
Are smiling upon them
From the age of the dinosaurs car were have on gasoline
Where, where have they gone?
Now it’s nothing but flowers,
You got it, you got it
There was a factory
Now it’s all mountains and rivers
You got it, you got it,
We caught a rattlesnake
Now we got something for diner
You got it, you got it....’’
“But then, considering that solar panels dont work unless tied to the grid”
they also don’t work in the dark ...
Manage the damn forests properly and you won’t have to sit in the dark, you liberal twits.
I imagine there will be a lot of luxury frozen foods wasted. Would hate to be their garbage haulers after the blackout is over, with spoiled lobster and shrimp in the piles.
Did California become an amusement park? “Everyone, come to Liberaland and experience what it’s like to be homeless without electricity! All the while paying taxes out the Ying Yang!”
Make me want to visit California even more every time I see their dumbass tourist commercials, knowing that everything there will be a primitive location.
