According to gcaptain.com:

“An average of 1,390 containers have been lost at sea each year over the past three years, according to a new survey of the world’s ocean carriers by the World Shipping Council.”

Chicken of the Sea?

Er, ocean?

Unless it was in the Sargasso.

OMG, that would seem to be a serious nail-biter! Or at least an ankle-biter.

A different article from this site. I had to look!
http://maritimebulletin.net/2019/09/26/greta-global-maritime-forum-old-drunken-slut-and-2-plus-2-equation/

“I saw my share of disgusting things in my life, but Greta’s show on UN stage was spectacularly disgusting...”

“Modern shipping resembles an old slut, drunk to the state of unconsciousness and lying in a ditch somewhere in city slums, open for anyone inhuman enough to take the advantage. From IMO to CEOs, from NGOs to international and governmental bodies, from Climate Change Industry beneficiaries to do-gooders in general – each and every predator or vulture is in the hots to abuse helpless victim.”

Yes. Mostly due inadequate, or improperly applied above deck lashing systems with the often used excuse of not having enough time to execute the task properly.

IAVEL VOR was slowly sinking during the day Oct 28, and finally, disappeared from the surface early in the morning Oct 29.......It eased into the water like an old man into a nice warm bath.

I think I'll wait for the movie.

“I have tuned a guitar but have never tuned a fish.”

Are you familiar with the four parts of a fish quartet?
First tuna, second tuna, barracuda, bass.

Tuna, huh? Think maybe Dalrimpole was behind this? Yes, I know it's spelled wrong.

I read an account that during the age of sail a large number of “wrecks” were floating the world’s oceans in various levels of disintegration. Lookouts had to keep a sharp eye out as these wooden vessels didn’t actually sink. They would float with, sometimes, little visible above the surface. Ramming one could potentially sink a ship.

In Florida waters, I have seen some old pleasure boats floating with just a bit showing on the surface. These are foam filled hulls.

There is tons of trash in the ocean. Conex boxes fall off freighters all the time and I’m sure a good many of them float. If you get one just heavy enough to float a few feet below the surface, well I would not want to ram one in a boat. I am sure there are worse things to hit in the open ocean. Thing is stuff tends to float far apart so your odds are good you will never hit anything. A little bad luck, and there is plenty of floating crap out there to sink a fishing vessel or wreck props or whathaveyou.

Is that common? I read about one of the boats in a round the world race hitting a submerged object in the Southern Ocean. Sunk it too.

Hey, I was trying to leave you one!

**********

WAITRESS: Yeah, can I take your order?

GEORGE: (Gesturing to Jerry) Check the raiser.

JERRY: My bet? All right.. I’ll open with a tuna sandwich.

ELAINE: Tuna?

JERRY: Oh, the dolphin thing?

ELAINE: They’re dying in the nets.

JERRY: Ooohhh.. You know, the whole concept of lunch is based on tuna.

ELAINE: Jerry, can’t you incorporate one unselfish act in your daily routine?

JERRY: Hey, when I’m driving, I let people in ahead of me all the time. I’m always waving everybody in. “Go ahead, go ahead, go ahead.” ..Alright.. alright. I’ll have a chicken salad.

ELAINE: And I’m going to have an English muffin with margarine on the side and a cup of coffee.

WAITRESS: Okay. (To George) What about you?

GEORGE: I’ll have the tuna.
