While I was serving as an artilleryman in Vietnam, we Marines still had the older cotton sateen utilities (fatigues, in army) and we had seen the new lighter weight Jungle Utilities on soldiers in Danang and we really craved having a set for ourselves.
Somehow, I managed to get a set of my own and they were cool and comfortable. Then while we’re conducting PMs on our gun section truck, its battery exploded and it doused me with battery acid.
The next second I’m standing there in my underwear and boots and my brand-new Jungle Utes were completely gone! The acid didn’t hurt me more than a mild sunburn but all I had left of my prized and hard-won uniform was a few green fragments.

Re the battery acid, I expect the authorities will throw the book at the perp, just for being a right wing dipstick.
