Oklahoma police officer gets a Starbucks cup labeled ‘Pig’

A police officer in Oklahoma was dismayed when he bought a coffee at the local Starbucks on Thanksgiving and noticed the name on the label was “Pig.”

The chief of police the Kiefer, Okla. said one of his officers trekked to Starbucks to get some java for a dispatcher when he received the insulting label.

“What irks me is the absolute and total disrespect for a police officer who, instead of being home with family and enjoying a meal and a football game, is patrolling his little town,” Chief Johnny O’Mara said in a Facebook post that included an image of the “Pig” coffee cup.

Chief O’Mara called the coffee shop and employees there offered to “replace the coffee with a correct label.” But the chief wasn’t buying it.

My small city has a young conservative mayor and a mostly liberal city council. For the last four years that city has gone through quite a resurgence with a decent amount of revitalization and new businesses coming in.

Six months ago, the first Starbucks opened.

One of the city council members, an old cadaverous liberal had the audacity to declare that all of the new businesses came to the city because they heard a Starbucks was coming.

She labeled it “The Starbuck’s Effect.”

I’ll stipulate that the Starbucks is indeed busy, but so are all the other places. The town has about 12,000 residents but is also host to a US Army research base that brings in something like 30,000 people a day and the Starbucks in on the way to the main gate.

Unless I misunderstand, this post asserts that police would harass citizens or fail to do their jobs - the jobs for which citizens are paying them - because of personal pique.

If that is true, doesn’t it support the Starbucks employee’s opinion of police?

Boycott this Starbucks and shut it down.

I despise Starbucks. Only idiots go there.

I live in a “working class” community. Granted upper level but still a large number of folks that get up every weekday and commute to a blue or lower end white collar job. We have one Starbucks in the area. I buy my coffee at the local convenience store for $1.49 for a generous cup and go to work passing by the Starbucks. I often stop and watch the customers that go there. It is mostly mom’s with a van full of kids and the seemingly largest collection of guys with man buns that I have seen around. This location is about 12 years old. Used to be many retired guys stopped there and shot the bull. I don’t see them anymore.

If you were black, would it be acceptable to you to have n****r on your cup? How about pig? This is acceptable behavior now?

I’m guessing that bitterness applies to more than just the coffee you like.

I make coffee at home using grounds that come in a very large can, because I’m super cheap.

It does seem that Starbucks is popular with women and fashion-conscious young men. My daughter worked at one for almost a year and met more than one loser boyfriend there.

I’d be more concerned about what’s in the cup, not on the outside. Cops need to carry a thermos of their own coffee and pack their own lunches/dinners. Too many sick bastards out there that believe the fake new propaganda.

Well, if you read it on the Internet, it must be true.

The post discussed the police’s using their power in order to harass or punish citizens. I think that is a higher level of “unacceptable” than a citizen’s being rude to a police officer.

Please note that when I say Behavior X is worse than Behavior Y, I am not saying Behavior Y is good.

Is it true? The poster Jon Preston asserted it and implied that it was praiseworthy. My reply treated the situation as a hypothetical, not as verified fact.

“Not too many years ago, a store like that would be blanketed with so many summonses that the manager would self-correct the situation in short order. It would also take an extra 30 minutes to respond to annoying drunks or psychos at 2AM.”

I'm wondering why the CEO of Starbucks has not spoken on the chains’ policy regarding hate and discrimination against law enforcement. I hope they have a policy and that it is enforced.

It may be time for the entire chain to stand-down for 48 hours until every employee is retrained.

or fail to do their jobs

Oh hell yeah. Why on earth would the cop who was treated like that trip over his feet to race to a job at that Starbucks? If one can find a way to remove the human element out of policing, I'd love to hear it.

We’e been around here a long time. I appreciate you, and wish you a happy holiday weekend. Going to put the turkey on the green egg smoker now, as the kids will all be off by 1600.

Starbucks leans left and overpriced coffee too. I rarely go there by choice of those reasons yet they contribute to the economy with jobs and providing a product consumers desire. What I absolutely detest is any disrespect or mistreatments of customers. However one feels about CFA their employees are well trained and professionally courteous. Being served by loser types opposite of that ruins the dining experience. The policeman was there as a customer and got his enjoyment of drinking a coffee ruined by a trash head.

Yes, it was a tacky thing to do, but it’s not as if they chased him down at a crime scene to force upon him a coffee cup with a rude label.

How many options does a patrol officer have to get something like this on a holiday in Keifer, OK? How many other customers get their cups “labeled” with disgraceful names at this place? Starbucks employees get paid less because they only serve coffee and related items. The Bible doesn’t show distinction between a soldier or one that keeps the peace in the community. Anyone who respects a soldier or a veteran should also respect a police officer.

Of course, if someone came in and pointed a gun at the barista, he would be whimpering and begging for the police to come and save him. So easy to be a “Big Man” when you can hide behind the cup label.
