Police chief Johnny O’Mara met with Starbucks to urge mercy over ‘PIG’ cup scandal

The Oklahoma police chief who blasted Starbucks after one of his officers received an order labeled “PIG” has met with the coffee chain to urge them to rehire the barista fired over the scandal, according to a report.

Kiefer Police Chief Johnny O’Mara said Tuesday that he met with Starbucks officials and “requested the young employee who was terminated be offered a position of employment,” news station KTUL reported.

“We start civility by forgiving minor indiscretions and using those moments to help people better themselves,” O’Mara said in a statement.

The Starbucks controversy began on Thanksgiving when one of O’Mara’s colleagues made a coffee run and came back with five orders labeled “PIG.”

O’Mara wrote in a Facebook post that has now gone viral that he was dismayed by the customer service.

“What irks me is the absolute and total disrespect for a police officer who, instead of being home with family and enjoying a meal and a football game, is patrolling his little town,” O’Mara wrote.

Starbucks apologized and issued a statement saying the employee “who wrote this offensive word on a cup used poor judgment and is no longer a partner after this violation of company policy.”

The location’s manager, who identified herself as Lola Price, also came forward, claiming she’d been fired in connection with the incident, despite not writing the labels on the cups, KTUL reported.

It’s unclear whether O’Mara urged the company to also have mercy on Price.

The manager was wrongfully hired actually. Someone explain to this woman the cause of her being fired is the failure as a manager to hire and train the right people and immediately dismiss the employee who was responsible for printing Pig on the cup. But as she says, she went off the floor to do her managers duties. Which is what exactly?

the person involved deserve to lose there job over this. years ago I had a friend who was working at McDonalds it was closing time and his best friend showed up to hang out at the store before giving him a ride home. My friend had just gotten done cleaning out the deep fat fryer and to be an ass my other friend went up to the counter 3 minutes before closing and ordered chicken nuggets. in response my friend said there is no way he was going to make the nuggets he had better go to Kentucky fried chicken. it was at that moment it was revealed that the three other individuals eating a meal in the store were from corprat and my friend was fired on the spot. this is the same situation for the corporation. You make your store look bad and you loose your job.

Read the article and I still don’t know who actually keyed in the word PIG. Did I miss that little bit of information?

Oh, do shut up.

Not gonna happen, boomer.

Retired Sheriff's Dept. after thirty years, rookie. Your appeal to authority ain't cutting it. Cops represent society and they (you) don't get to decide what level of scumbaggery is acceptable.

It's your brand of pussy that allowed us to get where we are today, where an entire nationwide service corporation thinks it's okay to OFFICIALLY disrespect the people of the United States and their thin blue line.

I think you need to shut up on this one, Barney Fife. You're dead wrong.

Why doesn’t Chief O’Mara hire the little punk as a police cadet?

Put his money where his mouth is?

In certain areas of the world, bad manners can get one killed.
This Starbucks employee lives in a free nation, but yet, bad manners still have consequences, especially in the service industry.

If she had not learned good manners, which used to be a part of family education, then Starbucks should have educated her before she took ker place behind the counter. The fact is that Starbucks is a Corporate supporter of transformational, progressive socialist politics, and didn;t have the courage to accept the responsibility for the employees lack of training in civil discourse. So they fired her.

At least now perhaps she will have manners. but Starbucks is just as politically nasty as it has ever been, just a virtue signalling corporate culture that has little respect for the deplorables it serves.

Tim Hortons, and Dunkin Doughnuts just provide a decent cup of cofee and doughnuts etc. If you go there you can avoid drinking a politically correct beverage.

I’d like to feel sorry for Lola Price. But no one forced her to work for Starbucks.

She chose poorly. Maybe next time she will go to work for a reputable company.

A nameless barista...but not the manager.

If you make a decision to do something, then you should take the credit and face the lauding or the punishment. Tjhe secondary termination was not a shift worker, this was a shift manager that supervised other employees and is held responsible for their actions with oversight and reporting deficiencies in their behavior to higher supervisors.

I’m not sure if terminating the shift manager may not be too strong, possible a counselling and an entry on her company employment records. But, as for the employee that did it, terminate as it is obvious he/she is not mature enough to hold down a position of this type in representation of the company.

My coffee loving wife, who seems to have an almost fire resistant mouth (the coffee must be hotter than hot), can’t stand Starpennies. She says, “it certainly isn’t worth a buck; and the stuff gives me a headache!”

Me, I don’t like hot drinks of any kind. If I can’t gulp it fairly quickly, then it’s too hot. I like the smell of coffee, but it tastes kinda like dirt to me. But I also avoid pop and any caffiene (the exception: a bite of darrrk choklatt a day). That way there is no let down from it wearing off. The best way to help stay alert: exercise and conditioning. And power naps! Lol

Every time I see the Starpennies logo I think of the mythological freak Medusa.

"Retired Sheriff's Dept. after thirty years, rookie."

Oh, you're THAT guy. Now your ridiculous comments make sense. I bet you'd rough up some stupid kid just because he didn't answer quick enough or made some stupid remark that made you feel disrespected.

Guess what, you dinosaur, people can swear at cops. People can give the cops the middle finger. People can, in certain situations, refuse to answer any and all cop questions and simply walk away from cops. I bet that really irked you. I bet nobody EVER walked away from you without getting thrown on the ground for it.

You and this cop are the reasons policing is looked at in such a negative light.

This woman broke NO LAWS! But she made this cop feel like a loser (he probably is). So he posted it on social media like a 12 year-old girl.

Get lost, old man.

Has the culprit profusely and genuinely apologized personally to the cop he insulted, and cops in general?

If not keep him fired!

Yea they can, rookie. But guess what? They can't do it while representing a business and in an official manner. Do you really not understand the difference between a crackhead talking shit on the street and a Starbucks employee calling cops (customers) 'pigs' using official Starbucks labelling?

The chief called out the business, not the punk.

You and this cop are the reasons policing is looked at in such a negative light.

Interesting conjecture, rookie. You have no idea what kinda cop I was. You need a few more years of seasoning before you reach full cop status. Ten years is about the time cops think they know it all. You'll get there. I suggest you stop your virtue signaling, though. It's sooo millennial.

This woman broke NO LAWS!

Who said she did? She broke company policy and was fired, as she should have been. Stop being so emotional. Stay frosty, rookie.

But she made this cop feel like a loser (he probably is). So he posted it on social media like a 12 year-old girl.

I doubt the cop felt like a loser. Where do you get that idea? Calling out uncivilized societal misfits publically is the new way. Just ask Donald Trump.

You're a Bush man living in a Trump world.

Rookie.

Maybe the chief ought to offer them a job keeping the jail cell cleaned up for when Otis needs to sleep off his latest drunk.

"official Starbucks labeling"

I'm laughing out loud at that one. You are such a snowflake. Did you shutter when you saw the word PIG on an official Starbucks label? I suggest you and the other cop get much thicker skin.

This incident never should have been publicized. The MOST that should have been done is the cop alert the manager, tell them what happened, asked for his money back, and never stepped foot in that Starbucks again. THAT is how a real police officer operates. Quiet yet effective.

Of course you are, rookie. Cause you still don't get it. This is a business serving customers. You're stuck in your 'cop mentality' thinking you know what's best for all cops and therefore all society. You're just a cog in the machine, rookie. There's a whole big world out there beyond your 'authority' (if you are in fact a cop, which I doubt).

This Chief represented me and all of civilized society when he publicly put Starbucks on blast, like they need to be.

Rookie fake cops don't need to be inserting themselves in civilizational dialogue. There's a culture war to be won, hipster.

Stay out of it until you get your mind right.
